Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most beloved animated shows that continues to grow years after it was first released. Whether it be through its characters, story, or overall world building, fans have found something to love about the franchise. This has produced a variety of media over the years, including comics, to a live-action adaptation of Avatar on Netflix, spin-offs, and video games. Video games in particular for the franchise were developed by third party companies to mixed review scores.

The last video game developed with the Avatar license was a set of Legend of Korra-based adventures published by Activision in 2014. One of which was a third-person beat-em-up action-adventure by PlatinumGames for major consoles, while the 3DS received a strategy-RPG in a similar vein to Fire Emblem. Both of these games posted similarly mixed scores, with no further games ever since. However, reportedly new AAA video games set in the world of Avatar are in development.

Reported on Avatar News, details were shared about two out of four games in development, with the Square Enix-developed Avatar mobile game announced last year being included as one of the four. At least one of these games will feature the original Avatar: The Last Airbender characters, though will be recast with new Asian and Indigenous voice actors. The article makes a note that this casting applies to the voice acting cast for the games, and not the cast of the live-action Netflix show.

The article notes that these games have been in development for a few years, and states that the release dates will be quite soon. It also describes the genres that these Avatar: The Last Airbender games will be taking after, with RPG being the main one, but they may feature mechanics that are present in action-adventure games as well. The article notes that there're no specific details regarding gameplay or anything else.

In regard to the MMORPG, the details about it are also quite sparse. This includes no details for platforms it will be targeting, or if the MMO will be linked to the aforementioned console game. The studios involved for these two games are working in collaboration with Paramount's Avatar Studios, but have yet to be disclosed. Regardless, this news might be exciting for Avatar fans, and with the games being a collaboration project with the original creators, these new video games can help expand on lore.

An Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG and MMORPG are reportedly in development.
