After the recent announcement that the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are working on a collection of new projects in the Last Airbender universe, many have excitedly wondered about what sorts of things they could expect. Now, the president of Nickelodeon has come forward to give a little taste of what fans can expect.

President of the Nickelodeon network Brian Robbins admitted that the upcoming projects from the newly formed "Avatar Studios" are still in early development, so he had few specific details to share. But he did mention the types of projects fans can expect, which include multiple films and TV series, all animated. While the studio had already mentioned plans to release a movie as the inaugural Avatar project, the idea of more animated series' had simply been an expectation rather than a confirmation up until this point.

"[series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko] are hard at work, and I think that universe will encompass definitely a theatrical film, animation, certainly multiple TV series and probably multiple films," Robbins said in an interview with Deadline. "I think we will be ready very soon to tell the world what is coming first but we are not there yet because we're in early stages of creative development." Naturally, this may not be the news many Avatar fans have been hoping for, but given how little information there is to give, perhaps it's best that the network is reassuring everyone that things are still happening.

After DiMartino and Konietzko departed Netflix's upcoming The Last Airbender series over creative differences, fans of the franchise were left with concern over whether they'd ever get to experience new stories in the universe they'd come to love. As a result, the announcement of Avatar Studios was likely a source of relief for many who had abruptly lost faith in the streaming giant's endeavor. Naturally, anticipation is high, which is likely why Robbins elected to reveal what little information he could when given the chance.

The Last Airbender has been a massive success as both a series and a franchise, quickly building a dedicated fanbase when the first series premiered in 2005 and even breaking streaming records when it debuted on Netflix last year. While 2012's sequel series The Legend of Korra might not have had quite the same impact, it also proved to be a success in its own right, bringing in a whole new crowd of starry-eyed fans to the fandom, particularly in the wake of the almost universally panned The Last Airbender live-action film from M. Night Shyamalan in 2010.

Many are still wary of what to expect from the upcoming Netflix series, so the knowledge that there are several new stories in the works from the Avatar creators themselves is sure to instill a bit of calm and confidence in the fans who have been waiting for a proper return to the world they enjoy so much. The new projects from Avatar Studios are expected to come to Nickelodeon and Paramount Plus, and possibly other ViacomCBS properties.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is now available on Netflix.
