Ever since the popular cartoon got added to Netflix earlier this year, Avatar: The Last Airbender fanworks have seen a boom as interest in the show is way up again. Canadian cosplayer DiGi Rin just posted some stunning photographs of her bringing the character Katara to life.

Although it was popular when it came out, Avatar: The Last Airbender is bigger now than it's ever been thanks to old fans' nostalgia and new fans' excitement. A record number of Netflix viewers are tuning in to watch the story of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and other memorable characters. Ever since her debut in the first episode, Katara of the Southern Water Tribe has proven to be a fan favorite.

The cosplayer posted the photos to her Instagram, crediting Don Dolce as the photographer in her caption. Most of the photos capture dynamic poses and blue color schemes, but one photo taken by user conmomphotography gives viewers a closer look at the costume itself. Earlier selfies show a closeup of Digi's wig, makeup, and stunning blue contacts. She did an amazing job at capturing Katara's iconic hair loops and bright blue eyes. Not all cosplays have intricate animatronics or prosthetics, but many require an attention to detail, including this one.

Digi's most recent photo of herself as Katara captures one of the character's fighting poses, set against a background of stone and water. Backgrounds add a lot to cosplay photos, and the water behind Digi makes the viewer think of water and waterbending without the editor having to put in special effects. Sometimes the best cosplays are simple yet striking, and don't overly rely on Photoshop effects or filters.

There's a ton of photos on Digi's Instagram showing her process crafting the cosplay, which is a great tool both for audience members wishing to recreate Katara and for those who just love the satisfaction of watching details fall into place. Many of the posted photos are of specific costume pieces side-by-side with screenshots from Avatar: The Last Airbender, which Digi clearly studied in detail so she could be as accurate as possible.

A decade and a half after its release, The Last Airbender continues to be an influential show well-loved by fans of all ages. It's great to see such an amazing cartoon still getting represented by cosplayers with a devotion to their craft, especially with characters as inspirational as Katara. Hopefully Avatar: The Last Airbender fans will continue to make and share cool creations like these in the years to come.
