Although exact details appear to be sketchy, it appears that Kevin Pereira’s The Attack channel has been banned from Twitch. The ban stems from the usage of viewbotting to bolster the dwindling viewer count for the channel. While many criticize and condemn Pereira’s actions, many may also agree that his action – which amounted to a few hundred views – isn’t as heinous as Fortnite streamer Ninja’s use of a racial slur.

For those unaware, Kevin Pereira co-hosted Attack of the Show on G4 from 2006 to 2012. Afterward, in 2014, Pereira created The Attack on Twitch – an intended spiritual successor to the rather successful TV show. Now, however, the Twitch channel appears to have slowly been dying, with a peak viewer count of around 300 viewers a week. Furthermore, one of the pressing factors that led to Pereira's decision was his team who relied on the channel for a paycheck.

Notably, though, Pereira owned up to his mistake, as evidenced by the image below. Several reasons could have quickened the fall of the channel, with many viewers citing Pereira’s deal with Disney, the purchase of a new studio, the changing format of the show, the hours of the stream, and other miscellaneous reasons. While the deal with Disney appears to be the most heavily criticized decision by the channel, Pereira defended the deal by saying the channel would have ended much sooner without it and would “absolutely do that deal again given the chance.”

Despite the heavy criticisms of Pereira’s viewbotting, several Redditors were also sympathetic about the circumstances surrounding Pereira’s decision to cheat. Acknowledging both his bad decision and the sympathies of his audience, Pereira stated that “a mistake for the right reasons is still a mistake.”

Everyone knows how heavy Twitch’s ban hammer can be; after all, Hyphonix couldn’t even talk in others’ streams during his ban. Nevertheless, it seems that The Attack is done, and at the very least, Pereira owned up to his actions. Where he goes from here remains to be seen, but with his lesson learned, perhaps this mistake won’t harm his future endeavors.
