The next game in Koei Tecmo’s Atelier series, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy, is doing something unique by starring the protagonist of the last game, a first for the niche RPG franchise. And it gets even better for fans of Ryza’s story, as it will also be getting a manga adaptation as well.

Series developer Gust announced that Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness And The Secret Hideout, one of 2019's most underrated RPGs, will be retold in the form a serialized comic from Riichi, an artist manga fans may know for Shinomiya Kouta Still Can’t Die -Border Of The Dead-. The manga series is set to start appearing in the issues of Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu sometime this fall.

Along with the first illustration for the manga, Koei Tecmo released the following story summary: “The Main Character Is Ryza, An Ordinary Girl. Tired of boring village life, she escapes the village to gather with her good friends in a secret location to talk of their dreams and plan thrilling adventures. One day, the determined Ryza and company decide to head for the forbidden ‘island across the shore’ as their first exploration trip. Together with the alchemist and other friends they meet there, they have a ‘summer adventure’ that they will never forget.”

It’s unclear presently if the manga will eventually see release outside of Japan, but given that the Atelier series is gradually gaining an international following, it’s always possible, especially if Atelier Ryza 2 manages to keep fans excited for more Ryza.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy will launch this winter for PC, PS4, and Switch.
