Platinum Games' frenetic anime action game Astral Chain showed up big during the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct, debuting a brand new trailer and confirming a release date for later this year. The Astral Chain trailer provided an in-depth explanation of the game's premise, detailing humanity's last stand against an interdimensional invasion. Players will have to wield the powerful sentient weapon Legion to fight the enemy back, starting August 30.

In Astral Chain, players will take on the role of a rookie in an elite police task force that's been empowered to wield Legion. It's with this weapon that the player will protect what remains of humanity, solving cases and hunting down the invaders' chimera. Players won't be on their own, though. The other members of the elite police task for will also be helping the player with their work. It'll be up to the player to foster these relationships, both with their fellow officers and individual citizens, all while wrestling with the power of the Legion.

With Astral Chain's release date quickly approaching, fans of Platinum Games can expect a lot more information to be released in the weeks and months to come.

Astral Chain releases August 30 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
