Fans of Platinum Games' signature brand of stylish action have something new to dive into today, as today marks the launch of Astral Chain, its latest IP. Now that it's here, the question remains of whether the game will provide a suitable amount of content for its $59.99 price tag.

To answer that question, several news outlets have been able to get their hands on Astral Chain early and provide an idea of how long it will take for the average player to beat it.

As far as Platinum's titles go, it's looking like Astral Chain falls near the shorter end, offering a relatively brisk experience more in line with something like the Bayonetta series instead of, say, NieR: Automata. While there is some sizable discrepancy in completion times between outlets, the general consensus is that an average playthrough of the game runs in the range of 12-24 hours start to finish.

That will ultimately be decided by how players approach the game, and whether they decide to rush through the main story missions or take the time to experience the plentiful side content that’s there to discover. Depending on those factors, in addition to the difficulty setting they choose, players can finish Astral Chain in as little as 10 hours or stick with it for as long as 35.

Therefore, players should have a complete experience either way, regardless of whether they have dozens of hours to spare or not.

Critical reception for Astral Chain has so far been considerably positive, with early reviews almost unanimously hanging in the upper 8, 9, and 10-out-of-10 range and praising the game's stylish combat and variety of gameplay. Whether that critical success will translate to sales remains to be seen, but with all of the positive word-of-mouth, there should be a good chance.

Astral Chain is available now as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
