Assassin's Creed Valhalla is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of fall 2020, all without proper gameplay being shown yet. Luckily, Ubisoft Forward is a showcase set for July where fans have a good chance to see Eivor in action.

Details have continued to trickle out about the game, however, and the latest to come from Assassin's Creed Valhalla involves the Drakkar, the male or female Eivor's longship throughout the game, and the viking Companions players can recruit for it.

Perhaps the most interesting thing is that both the Drakkar ship and mounts can be called pretty much whenever, although players will need to be near water for the Drakkar. Assassin's Creed fans who remember having to fast travel and run to docks in AC Odyssey will likely appreciate this feature, with the Drakkar also being customizable. Ubisoft stops short of revealing how customizable, but it's likely at least on par with Odyssey. The Drakkar will also hold 8 crew members who can participate in activities found near water.

The examples given are the ability to launch a Viking Raid to obtain resources in AC Valhalla, or attacking a bandit camp found alongside the shore. These Viking companions will actually disembark the ship to assist here, but it's unknown if players have to be on the ship to initiate the activity or if it means any waterfront activity.

The final reveal is a little on how Viking companions will work in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It seems that, as a baseline, there can be generic NPCs manning the Drakkar. However, it can also be manned by more unique NPCs met in the game that have their own backstory, but more than that, a "customizable Viking mercenary" that players can create is part of the raiding crew. Previously, it was revealed that the game does not feature traditional multiplayer, instead allowing players to send each other these custom mercs to aid in some degree.

Now, the "how" to that question has been answered, although there's still some lingering questions on how this might work exactly. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is shaping up quite nicely nonetheless, giving fans good reason to be hyped for it.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases Holiday 2020 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
