Long gone are the days of simple, single-player AAA releases that are fully complete when they launch. Now, with the rise of Fortnite and the live-service model, even single-player-focused games often have some form of post-launch content, but that's far from a bad thing. While there are some outliers, like Nintendo's recent Mario sports series, post-launch content is often a great way to add even more value to an already-excellent product. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is one such example, where post-launch updates are constantly improving the experience.

Since its release in September 2020, Ubisoft has updated Assassin's Creed Valhalla countless times. While a lot of these updates have been primarily focused on fixing technical issues, the vast majority of them have also added heaps of new content to the game, ranging from new gear to new missions, and everything in between. Well, Assassin's Creed Valhalla has just received its 1.6.0 update, and it may just be one of the biggest yet, adding a whole new game mode, along with a returning fan-favorite event.

Releasing on August 2, 2022, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's 1.6.0 update comes in at around 12-26GB depending on the platform, and brings an entirely new mode to the game for free. Named "The Forgotten Saga," this new game mode introduces rogue-lite elements to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, tasking players with diving into the deepest depths of Niflheim to conquer as many foes as possible before they're inevitably overwhelmed.

The Forgotten Saga mode can be accessed by any and every player once they've reached Asgard during the game's main quest line. Once in Asgard, players can create a new building in their hub area of Ravensthorpe. Once this building has been finished, players can hop into The Forgotten Saga mode, with no power level requirements restricting who can play the new mode. As players can't take in their unlocked equipment and perks, this mode should provide a balanced challenge for all players, regardless of their playtime. That being said, this mode is designed to pose quite a significant challenge to even the most veteran Assassin's Creed Valhalla players, so The Forgotten Saga shouldn't be approached without careful thought and planning.

As well as the new Forgotten Saga mode, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's 1.6.0 update is also bringing back the Sigrblot Festival, a fan-favorite in-game event. From August 4-25, players will be able to join the Sigrblot Festival event by simply returning to Ravensthorpe, which will net them with a range of themed festival rewards. For newcomers to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, they'll need to reach England, complete the first narrative arc in the game, and have a Settlement Level of at least two.

As is the case with every update, this new Assassin's Creed Valhalla patch also addresses a range of persistent technical issues and bugs. These fixes cover the entire game, from main quest bugs like an issue with the mission "Wedding Horns," to world event issues like Reda only offering one daily contract, and even Dawn of Ragnarok expansion problems like an immovable stone block in Svaldal and an unsolvable puzzle in Alethorpis. A few miscellaneous technical issues have also reportedly been fixed, including some Dual Spears finisher issues, and some selling problems that resulted in trade goods being sold unintentionally.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
