Assassin's Creed Valhalla players have had no shortage of additional content since the game's release. One of the more interesting of these additional modes and expansions to Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been the River Raids. This game mode embodies the lifestyle of historic Vikings and brings players to battle against various encampments and fortresses.

River Raids in AC Valhalla also gives players the chance to collect new and unique weapons and armor. In the latest update to the game, players have the opportunity to hunt for a new weapon called the Spear of Lugh. This spear is first mentioned after they complete the first three rivers in the River Raids questline. For those looking to gather this fiery spear, this guide can help.

Updated December 17, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: There is no shortage of fun activities to partake in when it comes to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Some of the most memorable events of this Viking-themed expedition, fittingly, come in the form of raiding, which Ubisoft has made even more interesting by way of the added gameplay mode, River Raids. Complementing the ongoing stream of DLC—including the much-hyped Dawn of Ragnarok—these side missions offer some amusing diversions and extra goodies for players. One of the many enticing rewards within River Raids is the Spear of Lugh.

As players continue to progress and clash with increasingly-strong foes (which are especially present in the DLC), having a potent, long-range spear like this can be useful. So it seemed fitting to revisit and flesh out this list, filling in some more details about the Legend of Lugh Quest, as well as the Lugh's Spear location and statistics.

The Legend Of Lugh Quest – Locating Lugh's Myth Clue

Before the spear itself can be obtained, a note containing a clue must first be taken, which will enable the quest that leads to Lugh's Spear. Speak with Vagn at the settlement to get started. The Legend of Lugh quest becomes available at the same time as the Treasures of River Berbha, both pointing players to a new area. To get closer to the Spear of Lugh, players can ignore the latter quest and hunt for Lugh's Myth Clue as part of the former quest instead.

Lugh's Myth Clue is along the River Berbha. Traveling along the western riverbank will lead players to a Druid encampment known as Wicker Grove. Players should note that because they are fighting on Irish soil, Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings back the Druidic enemies that hassled players in the Wrath of the Druids expansion.

The clue is in a closed-off room inside the highest building in Wicker Grove. It rests on a table behind a door that requires a player and an NPC to open. Fetching this clue points players back to the River Raids NPC Vagn at Ravensthorpe, every player's base in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Use Odin's Sight as well as Eivor's raven to scan the region and better locate the clue, as well as other nearby goodies.

Locating The Spear Of Lugh

With the note, Vagn points the player to a new area, the River Erriff on the west coast of Ireland. The Spear of Lugh quest will now be activated. The Spear of Lugh is at the very end of this river, inside the Glennacally Fortress. This structure is home to a number of difficult enemies and should be approached with caution. There are high-level druids, a disorienting fog, and werewolves in this area of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

The spear can only be gained through combat with the Erriff Champion, who is hidden in the highest point in the Glennacally Fortress. The Erriff Champion is hidden in the northwest portion of the fortress, behind an opening in a wall that players have to slide through. This leads to a hole in the ground that drops players into the chamber with the Erriff Champion.

Once on the ground, a short cutscene should play and the fight will commence. This battle should be relatively familiar for anyone who played the Wrath of the Druids DLC. The player must fend off Druidic attacks, as well as the burning Spear of Lugh in this fight.

The fight with the Erriff Champion isn't too difficult, so long as players keep their distance from their spear swings and jabs, and wait for their window to strike. It's useful to parry, roll, and strike from the side and back whenever possible. String together useful skills and abilities to keep the Champion down and whittle away their health quicker. Get ready to use stun if and when they do fall. Using a long-range weapon to poke the nearby fire is also helpful, as it will allow for stronger, more effective attacks against the Champion.

Once the Champion has been defeated, the quest is over, and the player is rewarded with the Spear of Lugh.

Players can still choose to finish the raid, gather additional loot, or finish any other quests nearby once the spear has been obtained.

Once wielded by the father of a demigod hero Lugh, this coveted spear is a product of the Irish god of craftsmanship and law. It makes sense, then, that the weapon is as effective and potent as it is.

After defeating the Champion of River Erriff, Eivor will find Lugh's Spear to be very useful and effective for the long haul, especially when upgraded to Flawless and Mythical status. As its description boasts, the weapon is "well balanced and very sharp."
