As eager fans will no doubt have already seen, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla dropped its long-awaited premiere trailer earlier today, teasing hidden blades, giant battles, and the debut of a brand new Viking setting. It's undeniably an epic trailer that seems to confirm a number of speculative rumors that have been spreading across the internet over recent months, while also beginning to highlight the technological advancements that now seem to be available for the title through its upgrade to next-generation hardware.

That doesn't seem to be the only indicator of the game's next-generation capabilities, however, with Game Informer revealing a handful of beautiful in-game screenshots that give fans their first look at what Ubisoft's newest release can do. The pictures themselves highlight a number of different aspects of the game, with combat, ship navigation, and more all shown off alongside Assassin's Creed Valhalla's stunning visuals.

The first picture appears to highlight the game's sailing sections, seeing the game's protagonist, Eivor, navigating a small Viking ship towards a precarious cliff face supporting a crumbling ruin. The rain makes the scene look absolutely stunning, with local wildlife gathering around nearby rocks and the clouds perfectly replicating the stormy weather. The next shot is perhaps the most beautiful of the bunch, highlighting Eivor hiking towards a remote building through a snowy forest environment. Better yet, the striking glow of the northern lights fills the sky, shining a hazy green shade of the player's path.

The next photograph highlights a battle in the snow between the player and a heavily armored soldier brandishing a flail. It's followed by a picturesque view atop a hillside, with Eivor looking down over a series of beautiful fields. The final in-game shot showcases a large-scale battle between the protagonist and some enemy soldiers, with the player seemingly brandishing a horn to rally their troops. Perhaps this could mean players will get to order units around and have more tactical decisions for major battles.

Finally, fans are treated to a conceptual shot that seemingly highlighting how players can alter their gear depending on their style of play. The photo shows three different styles of armor and weapons for the protagonist, including double axes, a broad sword, and a hammer, as well as lighter armor, heavy armor, and helmets. Clearly, Valhalla will be the most expansive and visually breathtaking entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise yet, boasting brand new features, returning mechanics, and graphical upgrades.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases holiday 2020 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
