Table of contents

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has all the makings of a well-crafted, modern RPG, save for the fact that players cannot create their own characters. Other than that, though, the customization opportunity is impressively deep. There is a wide array of weapons, solid armor sets, and other items that the players can pick up in this game. However, a couple of them are much trickier to find than others.

These rare items are often well-hidden, demand a high Power Level, or require following a complex process to acquire them. However, what they bring to the table makes the process very worthwhile. Some of these items are powerhouses in terms of combat, while others just make the player look very stylish as they traverse the world of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Updated January 4, 2023, by Stephen LaGioia: Ubisoft has continued to expand the content of this already massive Viking epic, capped off with the final DLC add-on, The Last Chapter, in November. With this comes a slew of new cosmetics, weapons, and other goodies for Eivor to add to their arsenal.

And so, we decided to revisit and expand upon this list of AC Valhalla's rarest items, the ones most coveted among players — along with the best weapons and equipment that can be found.

18 Wolf Mount

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Sunlight Mount on wolf close up

Wolf mounts can be purchased from the in-game store. However, a player doesn't need to do that if they want to own a wolf mount. They can simply turn to Reda's Shop. The items in the Shop are only available for a period of time before they are replaced by other unique and rare items. Some of the items that players can find here are wolf mounts, like Hati and Muspell Warg.

One of the best, rarest examples is the coveted Sunlight Mount. This is a highly elegant and sleek gold mount that Eivor can use to make their wolf mount even more intimidating. Players will need to keep their eyes peeled for this in the weekly selection at Reda's shop.

17 Wretched Scythe

As soon as the player arrives in Francia, they can immediately find this weapon should they choose to. It is located inside a Murmiliacum, north of Amienois and east of Amiens. It is marked by a golden assassin icon on the map.

Once you get inside the building, head to the second floor first to collect the Murmiliacum Door Key. Once acquired, head behind the building to find a wooden floor. Break the floor to head underground. Once there, simply continue on to find a chest. Use the key to unlock it to acquire the Wretched Scythe. This is just one of many great pieces of Murmiliacum wealth Eivor can flaunt.

16 Cu Chulainn Shield

The first DLC, the Irish campaign called Wrath of the Druids, comes with some majestic locales, but also some great new weapons and gear to try out. One of the best and rarest is this large, elegant shield, the Cu Chulainn. One of the standout pieces of Wealth in Meath, this shield was said to have been used by the demi-god Cu Chulainn.

To get it, players will first need to hit each of the other territories in Ireland. Players will also need to get all five of the Ui Neill Artifacts amongst Ireland to open the chest it comes in. Once that's done, head to the southern point of Meath. Head inside the cavern there, and players will see a chest that has the shield.

This shield is a powerhouse, as it's not only massive, but it increases Ability damage based on how long Eivor blocks.

15 Brigandine Rune

Runes are one of the most ideal ways to power up and customize Eivor's offensive (and defensive) abilities. Diamond-shaped Runes are particularly great, as they hold even higher buffs and more impactful abilities.

While all Diamond Runes are quite rare, the Brigandine stands out for its particularly useful nature. Not only is it one of just a handful of Diamond Armor Runes, but it also makes Eivor far more effective in combat. Players will be able to attack and move about more quickly when surrounded by more than two attackers, which is a common occurrence in Valhalla.

To increase the odds of finding one, Eivor can plunder chests, slay enemies, and check vendors from areas with higher Power Levels. Though they can also opt to hunt down Zealots scattered about the map, as they're more likely to drop them.

14 Damaged Fury Rune

Another rare, sought-after Rune by many is the Damaged Fury Rune, which increases Eivor's attack after taking a hit. Of course, even for many skilled assassins, getting hit can be a common occurrence, given the amount of foes players often face at once; some of which use projectiles.

Those who favor going on the offensive will find this Rune helpful, as it will bump up Eivor's offensive prowess quite a bit.

13 Nodens' Arc

Eivor aiming Noden's Arc

The Nodens' Arc is a bow the players can equip in the game. It is an Isu weapon. Like all weapons that are of Isu origins, it is decorated with glowing lines and lights. It is named after the Celtic god of hunters Nodens.

The process of getting the Nodens' Arc is very interesting and complex. Players were only able to decipher how to finally get this weapon by translating Isu scripts using Layla Hassan's computer. To get this weapon, players will need to hit a glowing rock in a lake in northern Eurvicscire using the Excalibur sword. This guide goes through the process of acquiring this bow in detail.

12 Bloodied Scythe

Scythes are a new weapon type introduced in the Siege of Paris DLC. The first of the bunch is the Bloodied Scythe. This weapon can be found in the Pontem Esera in the western part of the Amienos region.

RELATED: Best Weapons in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

The scythe itself is located inside a locked house. The key is kept by a Goliath, marked with a key above his head and a red outline. Either sneak on the enemy or attack him head-on to get the key. Once the key is acquired, head to a two-story house north of the fort. The Bloodied Scythe is located in a chest inside that house. This guide goes into even more detail.

11 Gungnir

gungnir valhalla glowing weapon wielded by Eivor

Those who like using potent, long-ranged spears in Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be glad to know that they can use the spear of Odin in the game. Gungnir is an Isu artifact, created by Ivaldi, and wielded by Odin himself.

Gungnir can be acquired in Goinnhellir, a cave in Norway's Hordefylke. The player can return to this location after traveling here for the first time with Sigurd. They'll be able to find this powerful spear inside the cave. This spear pulsates with power. Gungnir has the capability of extending its reach, allowing it to have a very wide area of attack. Players can read this guide for more details.

10 Excalibur

It would be blasphemy to create a game about ancient England and not include the legendary Excalibur, originally wielded by King Arthur himself. In the Assassin's Creed universe, Excalibur is created by none other than Hephaestus. At some point in history, it was lodged in a stone, to be picked up by King Arthur later on.

To get this weapon, players will have to do a lot of exploration. They will first need to collect all 11 Treasures of Britain and place them in their designated slots. As this guide explains in detail, these tablets can be found in underground caves and looted from Zealots.

9 Thor's Armor Set

Thor is one of the most popular Norse gods in the pantheon. Those who want to sport his look can do so by collecting his armor set in the game. This task, however, is easier said than done.

To complete Thor's set, players will have to first defeat the Daughters of Lerion, a process that will reward them with three pieces of armor. Then, they'll need to visit the Lerion Estate for Thor's Helmet. Finally, players will need to defeat all the members of the Order of the Ancients to get Thor's Cape. Eivor will need to take on many trials for this coveted armor, but it's well worth the fight.

8 Scythe of Tribulation

The Scythe of Tribulation, aside from having a quite appealing name, is also a considerably powerful weapon. Those who want to pick this weapon up can find it in the Flooded Slums area. More specifically, the player will need to head inside a building south of the church that leads to an underground crypt.

The player will need to swim underwater to move forward. Once inside the crypt, they must simply continue their way through, swatting a couple of rats along the way, to come across the chest that hides the Scythe of Tribulation.

7 Mjolnir

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Mjolnir

Thor's Mjolnir is probably one of the most popular mythological weapons in fiction, mainly due to the rising popularity of Norse mythology and Thor's characterization in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those who want to wield the rare Mjolnir can do so in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but the road to get there is far from linear.

Mjolnir can only be claimed after the player collects and wears every single piece of Thor's armor set.

Remember — Players will also need to eliminate all 45 Order of the Ancient Members and the three Daughters of Lerion to get the armor set.

Once these tasks are complete, Eivor can then travel to Hordafylke to get Thor's mighty hammer. This resides at the very northernmost point of Norway, and it's unreachable until the end of the story. To call this one a well-kept secret of Norway would be an understatement.

6 Gorgon Shield

Gorgon Shield Valhalla

The Gorgon Shield is a light shield adorned with the image of the Gorgon Medusa. Getting this item isn't easy, but its design and function are very rewarding. Before the player can set out to do what they need to do to get this shield, they must first make sure that they've already built a museum on Ravensthorpe.

Once the museum is built, they must then collect all 52 Roman Artifacts scattered all around the world. They must then give that to Octavian in the museum, who will reward the player with the Gorgon Shield.

5 Ulfberht Sword

egbert sword valhalla

Ulfberht is a short sword that is both swift and powerful. It will increase Eivor’s stun and is even more effective for those employing the Way of the Bear. To get this short sword, they must find a man named Bilhaut.

Bilhaut is located northeast of Pruvinis, in a ruin close to a river. He is surrounded by a handful of dead soldiers. Once approached, the player will have three options to choose from on how to continue forward: either persuade him to hand over the sword, buy the sword from him, or fight him for it. For the first option to work, the player will need to have at least a level 2 charisma. If bought, the sword costs 3,000 silver. Otherwise, the player can simply fight and defeat him to earn the sword.

This guide does an even deeper dive into the weapon and how to get it.

4 Swordfish

The Swordfish greatsword is one of the most unorthodox weapons in Assassin's Creed Valhalla in terms of design. It looks exactly as it sounds. It's ridiculous, which is why players should take the time to collect it.

To get this insane-looking greatsword, the player will (naturally) need to complete every single fishing delivery quest from the Fishing Hut located in Ravensthorpe. This task is rather more difficult than it sounds.

3 Magyar Hunting Bow

The Magyar Hunting Bow is another item the player can collect by completing the delivery quests of a certain establishment in Ravensthorpe. For this weapon, the player will need to first build the Hunter's Hut.

This hut is overseen by Petra and her brother. There's actually an interesting side quest that you can do with these two as well. However, for the Magyar Hunting Bow, the player will need to complete every single Hunter Deliveries.

2 Hidden Ones' Armor Set

Hidden Ones' Armor Set from AC Valhalla

During Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the Assassins Brotherhood goes by the name of the Hidden Ones, which is considered by many as the precursor to the original brotherhood. While Eivor isn't technically an ordained member of the Hidden Ones, she can collect the Hidden Ones' Armor Set to look like one.

This armor set is far from easy to complete. The player must first build a Hidden Ones' Bureau in Ravensthorpe. After that, they can talk to Haytham who will task them with locating five codex pages which are all located in hidden bureaus scattered around England. Each piece of the armor set can be found in a Hidden Ones' Bureau.

1 Joyeuse

joyeuse ac valhalla

The Joyeuse sword is a highly powerful and effective weapon. After a handful of heavy hits, the sword will start to inflict poison on enemies. A weapon that is as effective as this isn’t easy to come by, though. Those who want to get this weapon will need to work for it. This work will begin with the player collecting Hidden Ones’ keys.

The keys are located in three ruins: the Champlieu Ruins, the Gisacum Ruins, and the Diodurum Ruins. The ruins are marked on the map so they should be easy to find. Once the player collects the three keys, they will need to head to the Lutetia Bureau, which is also marked on the map. The Joyeuse short sword awaits them inside this Bureau.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna.
