The Assassin's Creed franchise could be considered the jewel in Ubisoft's crown, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla continues to shine brightly as the Oskoreia Season Free Update approaches. This update brings with it the titular limited-time event as well as a new free game activity, both of which are showcased in a new Assassin's Creed Valhalla trailer.

The Oskoreia Festival is also known as the Wild Hunt Festival and fans of Assassin's Creed Valhalla may have been looking forward to it since dataminers found evidence of it in September 2021. This event seems to be based on the Wild Hunt, a northern European folklore motif found across a variety of cultures. In fact, Oskoreia is the Norwegian name for the Wild Hunt.

In the trailer, players are informed of the in-game mythology surrounding the Oskoreia Festival--namely, that the gods are supposedly coming to Midgard to hunt. Their quarry consists of both beasts and men, much like the real-life Wild Hunt. It appears that this festival is a way for Eivor and company to prove that they are not easy prey through tests of martial skill, confronting waves of veiled foes, and decking themselves out in intimidating, bone-covered outfits. The event was featured prominently on Assassin's Creed Valhalla's latest roadmap and it seems that Ubisoft has put a lot of work into it.

This time-limited event will last from November 11 to December 2, which seems to be the period when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest. Eivor will have to find a way to honor the dead lest they haunt the Vikings. It's unclear if these spectral foes will have a sci-fi explanation, but Eivor is also shown fighting a werewolf in the trailer. The event will feature a variety of new activities and rewards, including what appears to be bone adornments for Eivor and their raven as well as the deadly Hel's Scythe weapon.

Coming in the same update is the Tombs of the Fallen free game activity, which appears to give Eivor a task reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie. The trailer showcases Eivor making their way through a variety of platforming challenges, sliding on a zipline, and exploring darkened underground environments. These tombs appear to be filled with bats, snow, and interesting environmental touches such as waterfalls, underground lakes, and corridors full of spinning traps. It remains to be seen what the main plot of Tombs of the Fallen will be, but players may be interested purely for the challenge.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available on Amazon Luna, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
