Assassin's Creed Valhalla is loaded to the brim with places to explore, wealth to collect, and hidden quests to enjoy. As such, some players may find themselves venturing into certain areas well before the story intends them to. For those players struggling to get past the barred door in Offchurch blocking one of Valhalla's many wealth marker, this is probably why.

Wealth takes many forms in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Sometimes it may be a carbon ingot, used to upgrade weapons and armor at the blacksmith, while other times it could represent powerful new weapons and armor. The wealth locked behind the door in Offchurch is one such example.

In most cases when players find a barred or locked door, there is a key or an alternate way in that they can use, but that's not the case here. For this door in particular, players must progress to a certain point in AC Valhalla's story, as they'll be unable to get through otherwise.

How to unlock barred door in Offchurch

In order to get through the barred door in Offchurch, players must be on the story quest entitled Tilting the Balance. This happens during the third chapter of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and sees Eivor and the player attempting to find King Burgred. After fighting their way through King Burgred's hideout, players will once again find themselves up against this locked door. Thankfully, one of the enemies players defeated in the room just before the door has the key, allowing access to the previously inaccessible area.

Here players can defeat King Burgred in single combat in order to continue the main story, but before they leave it is important to grab the wealth in this room. As it happens, this chest contains a powerful weapon, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Sepulcher Axe, capable setting Eivor's weapons aflame whenever it scores a critical hit. This can add a ton of extra damage, especially when used in conjunction with another weapon, and should not be missed. In order to dual wield this axe with another, players will need the heavy dual wield skill from the skill tree.

While Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been praised for its approach to open world exploration, there's something to be said for items like this that are locked behind story progress. In a game that encourages players to find alternative solutions to problems, it's somewhat misleading that the game shows this piece of wealth despite it being unobtainable until this mission.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
