Assassin's Creed Valhalla is poised to release this fall, and in several ways, it seems set up to follow its predecessors. Some OG content is returning to the series like the insta-kill hidden blade, but the RPG elements, the romance, and all are more similar to Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Chances are, fans of the franchise will get more insight into these elements at Ubisoft Forward on July 12.

However, it seems unlikely that a major glance at the story will be given, at least nothing more than context for what is already known. Eivor, the Assassin's Creed Valhalla protagonist, sees players make the journey to England, meet some Hidden Ones, learn of the Hidden Blade, and go to war with various figures. There's obviously the presence of the Isu to consider as well, who may manifest as figures like Odin and Thor, and the modern-day storyline as well. There's one lingering question left by the modern-day storyline that could easily play a small role in Assassin's Creed Valhalla too.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: The True Ending

While many think Assassin's Creed should just leave the modern-day storyline behind, there's no denying that one scene in Odyssey was a major franchise storytelling moment. After players get the true ending by defeating all the mythical beasts, Layla actually meets Alexios or Kassandra in the flesh, thanks to the influence of the Staff of Hermes. They die upon giving it to Layla, as holding the staff is all that kept them alive, but this also means they were alive for 2400+ years.

Obviously, Layla goes on to prove that she's worthy of the staff and that it won't corrupt here, although it is also implied throughout the game's DLC that Layla is not too successful at that. She mortally wounds Otso Berg, leaving him there to die if not captured by the Assassin's. She kills her closest friend due to the staff, and it's made clear just how powerful this staff is in Atlantis. And while that itself is likely to manifest in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's modern day storyline, modern could also go past. After all, Alexios or Kassandra are alive, clearly not having lived in the ruins of Atlantis for their centuries of life. This poses the question where they've been this entire time.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Could They Appear to Eivor?

This means that Alexios or Kassandra have been alive and in the shadows throughout the entirety of the franchise. This means they were alive when Bayek founded the Hidden Ones, when Altair reshaped the Assassins, when Ezio became mentor, and so on and so forth. It's unlikely they were involved with any of the events, but they may have known about it and some Assassins may have known of them. They likely kept themselves hidden from Templars due to the staff's power, but they wear a suit in the scene. This means they didn't just stay hidden the entire time.

It would be interesting, if for the briefest moment, Alexios or Kassandra met Eivor. It wouldn't have to be a big role, but to confirm and show that the character has lived for so many centuries once again would be a big moment. There could even be references to an "Eagle Bearer" that show this to the slightest regard. Whether or not they somehow do remains to be seen, but if Valhalla does not use this Odyssey moment, it seems a wasted opportunity.
