It's just the beginning of the wave of next-gen games and consoles, as the Xbox Series X/S launched on November 10 with several new games to enjoy alongside it. One of these is Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, which is receiving positive reviews thus far from critics and fans alike.

While most players paid top dollar to reserve a copy of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, or to purchase it on the day of release, the same can't be said for some lucky buyers. Due to what appears to be a glitch, select buyers were able to purchase a copy of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Ultimate Edition for extremely cheap.

As a new game, the standard copy of the game goes for the typical $60, with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's Ultimate Edition offering all the in-game bells and whistles it has to offer, cranking the cost up to $120. However, lucky would-be players in Norway were in for a treat when they discovered that the Ultimate edition of the game was being sold for a mere 109 krones, or just over $12 USD.

Ubisoft has since fixed the price of the game back to where it belongs, so anyone who missed out on this deal is unfortunately out in the cold. These kinds of game monetary discounts have happened before, and usually, it quickly results in a cancellation of all the glitched purchases. However, those who picked up Assassin's Creed: Valhalla seem to be locked in with their purchases; there's no indication that Ubisoft has reversed these purchases or cancelled them.

Perhaps the most amusing thing about this entire debacle is the fact that Assassin's Creed: Valhalla starts players out in Norway and focuses heavily on the region. It would have been an interesting promotional choice to offer players in the area a temporary discount, but Ubisoft has given no indication that this was an intentional action, so it's apparently pure synchronicity.

This glitch comes on the cusp of potential price increases in games for the first time in many years. Developers and publishers have discussed the possibility of increasing the price of next-gen games, with select titles launching at $70 instead of the typical $60 that standard releases have been held to since the current generation of systems launched. While Valhalla launched at the usual price, players who are currently balking at spending another $10 on new games may be particularly envious of their Norway brethren who got away with this stupendous deal.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia, with a PS5 launch coming on November 12.
