Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an incredible open-world game that will provide more insight into the fascinating world of the Vikings of our history. Not only does the game do its best to be accurate and faithful to the historical era it is portraying, but it also includes some of the most famous Vikings in history.
Despite the game's best efforts, though, it would be near impossible to put every single historically significant Viking in just one game. Knowing this, there are a handful of Vikings famous throughout history who unfortunately did not make it to this game's character roster.
10 Erik the Red
Erik Thorvaldsson, or more commonly known as Erik the Red, is a well-known historical figure and was a successful Norse explorer. According to historical texts, Erik the Red founded the very first settlement in Greenland. His moniker "the Red" is said to have stemmed from the bright color of his beard and hair. He is the father of another well-known Viking figure, Leif Erikson.
Erik the Red is not present, nor is he mentioned in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
9 Freydis Eiriksdottir
Freydis Eiriksdottir is the daughter of Erik the Red. Like her father before her, she was a Norse explorer who mainly headed the Norse exploration of North America alongside her father and brother. The family discovered the New World five centuries before the expedition of Christopher Colombus.
Freydis is portrayed as a masculine and strong woman, often defying the societal norms at the time. She is unfortunately not present in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
8 Ragnar Lothbrok
Ragnar Lothbrok is perhaps one of the most popular Viking historical figures of all time. Ragnar is a legendary hero, as well as a Danish and Swedish king. He rose to prominence after many successful raids. He is the father of the commanders of the Great Heathen Army, whose initial aim was to seek revenge for their father's execution at the hands of King Ælla of Northumbria.
Ragnar had already passed at the time beginning of the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but he is constantly referenced in the game. Due to his popularity, Ragnar Lothbrok is also a prominent character used in many fictional stories involving the Vikings.
7 Bjorn Ironside
Bjorn Ironside was a Norse Viking chief who went on to become a legendary king of Sweden. He was one of Ragnar Lothbrok's sons. He was also said to be the first ruler of the Swedish Munso dynasty. After his passing, his descendants are said to have continued ruling over Sweden until the year 1060.
While not present in the game, Halfdan Ragnarsonn speaks of him when reflecting on his lost brothers, hinting that Bjorn may have already passed during the events of the game.
6 Eric Bloodaxe
Eric Haraldsson, better known as Eric Bloodaxe, was a Norse ruler. He is thought to have ruled as King of Norway and King of Northumbria on two separate occasions. While both of his rules were short-lived, his reputation was apparently widespread. He is the son of Harald Fairhair, the first king of Norway.
He makes no appearance nor is he mentioned in the game. His father, on the other hand, appears as a minor character.
5 Egil Skallagrimsson
Egil Skallagrimsson was a Viking war hero. On top of his prowess on the battlefield, he is said to also have been as skilled with a sword as he was sharp with his words, with many referring to him as one of the finest Scandanavian poets. He was also a farmer and is thought to have been a berserker warrior.
Egil Skallagrimsson makes no appearance in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which is a shame considering his reputation in combat. There is also no reference or mention of him anywhere in the game.
4 Gunnar Hamundarson
Gunnar Hamundarson is a popular Viking historical figure. He was incredibly renowned for his skills in combat and superhuman athleticism. He was said to have been able to jump his own height despite sporting full armor. One time, it is said that he managed to catch a spear that was thrown at him, which he then threw back to his attacker, killing him.
Gunnar Hamundarson unfortunately does not make an appearance, nor is he referenced in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
3 Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye
Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye was a prominent Viking figure, a warrior, and a Danish King. He was also the son of Ragnar Lothbrok. Alongside his brothers, he was one of the commanders of the Great Heathen Army. He apparently co-ruled Denmark for a time with his brother Halfdan. His moniker Snake-in-the-Eye was due to the in-born mark he had in his eye, which apparently resembled the shape of Ouroboros.
While he doesn't make an appearance in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, his brother Halfdan speaks about him briefly while in conversation with Eivor.
2 Sweyn Forkbeard
Sweyn Haraldsson, also known as Sweyn Forkbeard, was a king of Denmark. He took up the throne after revolting against his father, the former King. He ended up ruling most of Norway and became the first Danish king of England before he passed away. Many of Sweyn's children went on to become kings and queens themselves.
He doesn't make an appearance nor is he mentioned in any way in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
1 Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson
Harald Gormsson, known as Harald Bluetooth, was both a king of Denmark and Norway. He reportedly introduced the Christian faith to Denmark and he managed to unite most of the land's tribes into one united kingdom. According to multiple sources, his own son revolted against him.
The modern Bluetooth technology is named after him. He doesn't make an appearance in the game, but he appears in an Assassin's Creed novel. He reportedly possessed one of the prongs of the Trident of Eden, an Isu artifact.
