Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla would receive a third expansion sometime in early 2022. This led to weeks of rumors and speculation, but now Ubisoft has confirmed and revealed this expansion to the world. Dawn of Ragnarok will see players take on the role of Havi/Odin once more and attempt to rescue their son, Baldr, from Svartalfheim.

Ubisoft describes Eivor as embracing her role as Odin, but it’s unclear if there are any major implications for Eivor or the modern-day Assassin’s Creed Valhalla storyline. Dawn of Ragnarok totals roughly 35 hours of gameplay in an area around one-third of the size of England in-game. Svartalfheim is being invaded by fire and frost giants, with the native Dwarves scattered and in hiding, and to combat these enemies, Havi has a few new tricks up his sleeves.

Players will be able to steal, or possess, the powers of fallen enemies as Havi. This means wielding the flame and fire abilities of the giants against them, as well as Havi’s own. In the Dawn of Ragnarok trailer, Havi is seen shapeshifting into a raven for an epic assassination, while also utilizing the ability to teleport with a bow. Gameplay-wise, there is an emphasis on combat, stealth, exploration, and puzzle-solving in Dawn of Ragnarok.

Furthermore, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will also introduce the Valkyrie’s Challenge in Dawn of Ragnarok. Players will be able to step into a fighting arena to unlock new rewards by battling new and old foes in trials. Overall, it is a highly mythological DLC and it’ll be interesting to see how this is received by the community when Dawn of Ragnarok launches on March 10, 2022.

Earlier, though, fans will also be able to check out Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla’s Crossover Stories. On December 14, Ubisoft is adding new, free content to both Odyssey and Valhalla that tells the story of Kassandra deciding what to do with her life in Odyssey, and that connects to Valhalla in its new quest, where Kassandra and Eivor meet face to face. “Those Who Are Treasured” is Odyssey’s crossover quest, and “A Fated Encounter” is in Valhalla. It involves the potential destruction of the Isle of Skye (Scotland) and an Isu Artifact, and whereas Dawn of Ragnarok’s influence on Eivor’s lift remains to be seen, it seems “A Fated Encounter” could set up Eivor’s future.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarok expansion releases March 10, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
