Assassin's Creed Valhalla is going to be the franchise's focus for the end of 2021 and 2022, as Ubisoft confirmed more content support would be coming throughout 2022 at Ubisoft Forward. Notably, though, this may not come as a surprise to fans as rumors of new DLC outside of what is known has been swirling for several weeks now.

Wrath of the Druids just released a couple weeks ago, and players will be able to check out the Siege of Paris later this year. Once that is done, more content will be added to the game, and what Ubisoft teased in the showcase heavily implies that the rumors of Muspelheim and a dragon in Assassin's Creed Valhalla are all actually true.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: E3 2021 and the Meteor Rumor

For weeks now, there's been rumors of a third DLC code named Meteor. What exactly it is has been up in the air, but one of the leading theories is that a Dragon (or dragons) would come to Assassin's Creed Valhalla in it as Eivor travels to Muspelheim. Notably, the realms of Asgard correspond with real world locations in-universe, and North Africa connects to Muspelheim (with the Vikings making it that far during their travels). In other words, it seems that Eivor will travel to North Africa and visit Muspelheim. Or it's also entirely possible that travel to Muspelheim happens another way; no matter what, the above image was shown at Ubisoft Forward. And, regardless of circumstance, it seems like a gate to Muspelheim due to its fiery runes.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla players visiting Muspelheim has huge implications in and of itself. As a realm of fire, there are few entities associated with it, such as Surtr, who attacks Asgard during Ragnarok. Surtr will likely be a boss fight, not unlike Balor in Wrath of the Druids. More importantly, though, a realm of fire being home to a Fire Dragon should come across as no surprise. Several forms of media related to the mythology connect Dragons to Muspelheim, and it only makes sense for it to happen here too. Obviously, this in and of itself seems set up to be a massive fight for Eivor. With new content confirmed and this gate shown off, these rumors seem more valid than ever.

Of course, this is likely to be very controversial in the community. Many dislike how heavily recent games have embraced fantasy and mythology, and while werewolves in Ireland is one thing, choosing the fantasy-iconic dragon might just be a step too far. Regardless, while Ubisoft did not outright confirm dragons in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, its showcase today made it a much safer bet than ever before.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
