Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that it would be giving away Assassin's Creed Unity for free following the Notre-Dame fire. While the company received an outpouring of support on social media, gamers have also taken to the game's Steam review section to praise the company.

The game's Steam reviews chart, which tracks how many positive or negative reviews have been published in a timeframe, shows that around 400 positive reviews for Assassin's Creed Unity have been left between April 15 and April 19. Many of the reviews reference Ubisoft's generosity and its €500,000 donation to the Notre-Dame restoration fund. Ubisoft only offered the game free on its own game launcher Uplay and not Steam, but it seems that players were so moved by its actions, that Steam owners of the game want to show their thanks, too.

One review, published on April 16, says "Thanks Ubisoft & Assassin's Creed Unity for giving us an opportunity to appreciate what Notre Dame used to be. God bless France." On April 17, a user wrote "Ubisoft just said this game is free for one week according to what happened with Notre Dame. They also donated 500,000k eur." Another review left on April 18 reads "prayers for Notre Dame" and another, left on April 17, just says "this game is free in the ubisoft store until april 25th."

Some of the reviews also joke about Ubisoft's potential involvement in the process of rebuilding the Notre-Dame. Following the fire at the Parisian landmark, some gamers wondered whether Assassin's Creed Unity's portrayal of the Notre-Dame could give builders a guideline when putting it together.

Assassin's Creed Unity reviews Notre-Dame

While Ubisoft has publicly confirmed that it is not involved in this capacity (at least, not yet), that hasn't stopped some players from having a bit of fun. One review, posted on April 16 says "Worker A: Do we need to build this catacomb? Worker B: I don't know, Ubisoft painted it on the drawings."

There have been many reports about games being review-bombed on Steam for the unrelated actions of the developer. Some review bombings have stemmed from failure to offer regional server support (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) and Epic Games Store exclusivity deals (Metro Exodus). While some would still prefer that the external actions of a developer would have no sway on reviews, in this case, the positive review bombing of Assassin's Creed Unity may bring a smile to some faces.

Assassin's Creed Unity is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
