Ubisoft has today revealed their first piece of story DLC for Assassin's Creed Unity titled Dead Kings. The expansion will follow up with Unity protagonist Arno post-campaign, as he visits the city of Saint Denis, and the crypts of fallen French kings that lurk below.

In celebration of the DLC's announcement, Ubisoft has unveiled a first look CG trailer for Dead Kings that gives players some clues about the upcoming adventure. In it, we see Arno venturing through the catacombs of Saint Denis before eventually discovering a mysterious underground “village.” Check out the trailer above.

The trailer also gives a quick look at the new guillotine gun that will be included with the Dead Kings DLC. However, the guillotine gun won't be the only new item included with the DLC, as Dead Kings will also include new murder mysteries, collectible enigmas, and cooperative missions. And in turn those new missions will unlock their own set of new weapons, armor, and gadgets for players to use either in the main game or the DLC.

For all intents and purposes, it's a fully featured DLC offering, but what makes Dead Kings really special is that it's completely free. All players need to do is own a copy of Assassin's Creed Unity and then on January 13th they will be able to download the DLC on PC, PS4, or Xbox One. Not a bad deal if you ask us.

While Assassin's Creed Unity may not have been the follow-up to Black Flag or evolution of the series that fans had hoped, Ubisoft is still trucking along with their DLC plans undeterred. However, where most post-release content has come at a hefty price tag, Dead Kings carries the appeal of being a free offering. That's because, after Unity launched with significant problems, Ubisoft decided to cancel their Season Pass and offer the DLC for free. They also gave those who purchased a Season Pass an additional free game as a goodwill gesture.

So, despite some general displeasure with Unity beyond the bugs, players still have a new Arno adventure to look forward to. Again, the DLC will launch next Tuesday, January 13th, for all platforms.

What do you think of the Dead Kings DLC? Are you eager to return to the world of Unity after playing the main game?
