Ubisoft reveals in the latest Assassin's Creed Syndicate patch notes that the game now offers 4K support on the PS4 Pro, though the upgrade isn't without issues.

With the PS4 Pro now available, many owners of the new Sony console are hoping 4K support comes to as many games as possible. Fortunately, plenty of current PlayStation 4 games have seen visual upgrades on the console, and many upcoming games have already been confirmed to receive 4K support.

The latest title to receive 4K support on PS4 Pro is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. According to the update 1.5 patch notes, the game is now playable in 4K on PS4 Pro, and offers a noticeable upgrade to the visual experience within Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

This is the second major title Ubisoft has upgraded recently for PS4 Pro 4K support. The developer and publisher also updated The Ezio Collection to support 4K on the new Sony console.

However, in both cases, Ubisoft didn’t provide any specific details about how the 4K upgrade works, beyond the fact that the game now offers “4K dynamic rendering.” However, based on the experience of gamers so far, and the wording Ubisoft has provided, it’s safe to assume the 4K visuals in both games are simply a visual upgrade and not native 4K. That said, the improvements to the graphical quality in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate are noteworthy and impressive.

It’s worth noting, though, that some players have experienced weird visual bugs and artifacts. While these glitches aren’t necessarily game-breaking, they do hamper the immersion and may be frustrating to some players. Hopefully Ubisoft will correct any lingering visual issues introduced with the 4K update.

Additionally, some players have noted that some of the visuals in 4K look worse than 1080p. Naturally, Ubisoft doesn’t want any more rendering issues after the Assassin’s Creed Unity debacle, so the developer is undoubtedly looking to make any necessary fixes.

In regards to PS4 Pro 4K visuals, some players have claimed the game looks better on 1080p televisions, not just 4K sets. This may not be the case for every Assassin’s Creed Syndicate player, but it seems so far some have reported the game looks better on HDTVs as well as the 4K televisions.

With the PS4 Pro launching just a little more than a month ahead of the holidays, and Xbox One outselling Sony consoles the last few months, it’s in Sony’s best interest to see as many games as possible receive 4K support on the PS4 Pro. With that in mind, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate likely isn’t the last game to receive 4K support before the holiday season comes to a close.
