It's no secret that Assassin's Creed Syndicate has a ton of work to do to earn back the trust of fans after Unity. The stealth action series was at its peak two years about with the pirating shenanigans in Black Flag, but last year's focus on online co-op didn't quite have the same magic. Unity was a financial success, just like Syndicate is sure to be, but to become a fan favorite series again, Assassin's Creed Syndicate needs to deliver in a serious way.

The upcoming installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise got off to a good start by introducing a playable female lead character. The lack of this option in Unity was one of the many complaints about last year's game. In addition to two protagonists, the series is changing time and location to industrial revolution era England. The setting is a little further in the future than the series is typically placed, but the team seems to have created an amazing replica of London for players to explore.

As always, the team behind this Assassin's Creed have very faithfully recreated the major areas in the setting. Anyone who has been to England will likely recognize the 1800s versions of Whitechapel, The Strand, Westminster, Lambeth, Thames, Southwark and the City of London. These areas will act as the major zones for the game, so if you don't know them already, it's likely that you'll have them memorized after a few weeks with the game.

The trailer is light on action and really spends most of its time showing off the detail put into every nook and cranny of the environment. We see a few leap of faiths throughout the tour of London, but not very much combat at all. Plenty of the earlier footage, including the meet the twins trailer, offer a look at that side of the game.

Much of the negative press surrounding Unity began when the game launched full of bugs and problems that took weeks to patch up. This time around, Ubisoft really needs to release a quality game with a positive day one experience. The lack of multiplayer in Syndicate should help with that and the company has already delayed the PC release in order to make sure it offers the best experience possible right out of the box. We look forward to this October when we find out for sure whether the franchise is back on the right track or still failing to recapture its old magic.

What do you think of the setting? Are you still enjoying the series or has it lost its magic for you? Let us know in the comments.
