Since its series debut, one of the best parts of Assassin’s Creed has been its world building. Ubisoft has built an expansive, lively world full of interesting characters and environments. Certain entries in the franchise are stronger than others, but Assassin’s Creed has mastered character building better than most franchises.

While the main protagonists always have their strong appeal, Assassin’s Creed is stuffed with side characters that deserve their own stories. Ubisoft has already started to explore this concept with the Adewale DLC in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, and Basim in Assassin’s Creed Rift. If it continues this trend, there are a few clear top candidates for their own spinoff games or DLC.

Aya (Assassin’s Creed Origins)

Aya Assassins Creed Odyssey Elpidios

Many fans wouldn’t call Aya a side character, but her story deserves more attention that it got in Origins. Aya founded the Hidden Ones alongside her husband, and an argument could be made that she was more important to that effort than Bayek was. However, Aya was barely used as a playable character in Origins, making her feel less impactful than she truly was. Luckily, her legend only grew after her time in Egypt.

After her and Bayek parted ways at the end of Origins, Aya started going by the name Amunet, a famous leader within the Assassins. In the proceeding years, Amunet recruited more assassins to her cause, fighting in the shadows and deepening the Hidden Ones reaches throughout the Roman Empire. More than any other character in the series, Aya made her mark on the history books and laid the groundwork for all the Assassin’s Creed games to come. Playing as Aya/Amunet as she works to strengthen the Hidden Ones would be a game right in line with the classic Assassin’s Creed titles.

Achilles Davenport (Assassin’s Creed 3)

Achilles Davenport is most famous for his association with Connor Kenway in Assassin’s Creed 3, where he effectively served as Connor’s assassin mentor. When Achilles is introduced, he is old and retired, but decides to help Connor in his quest to keep the Templars out of the Isu temple on his tribe’s land. Achilles is also featured in Assassin’s Creed Rogue where he trains Shay Cormac before ultimately being crippled by Connor’s father, Haytham.

While Achilles did die in Assassin’s Creed 3, there’s nothing preventing Ubisoft from developing a prequel game set prior to the events in AC3 and Rogue. Thanks to Rogue, fans already know that Achilles was on a quest to gather Pieces of Eden, despite Shay’s protests. Following Achilles in that pursuit, or a different story entirely, would make for great Assassin’s Creed games. The grizzled veteran assassin would surely have adventures establishing the Brotherhood in Colonial America.

Herodotus (Assassin's Creed Odyssey)

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Herodotus Historian Bard Ancient Greece

Historians may know Herodotus as “the father of history,” but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey fans know him as Kassandra’s record-keeping companion. His name was more famous than his actual impact on Odyssey, which would actually serve him well in a spinoff. Herodotus wasn’t one to get involved in combat, but his spinoff game could give the franchise a new type of storytelling to try.

In real life, Herodotus is most famous for his Histories, an ancient record of clashes, politics, and traditions across Greece, Western Asia, and Northern Africa, which he is in the latter stages of completing when he is introduced in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. A Herodotus spinoff could replicate his relationship with Kassandra as a guide who travels with those on great adventures to learn and write all he observes about new characters. Players could control Herodotus’s various companions as he records the dealings and conflicts that take place throughout the ancient Mediterranean region, one of the top Assassin’s Creed time periods. Hopefully Assassin's Creed gives Herodotus another shot.
