Several Assassin's Creed games are in some stage of development, including next year's Assassin's Creed Mirage, the open-world game set in Japan Assassin's Creed Red, the enigmatic, potentially set in Germany Assassin's Creed Hexe, the mobile title Assassin's Creed Jade, the multiplayer project Invictus, and a handful more too. Assassin's Creed Mirage, Red, and Hexe are the headliners of these, with a new rumor potentially giving some insight into these games.

In regard to Assassin's Creed Red and Hexe, fans know the former is an open-world RPG set in Japan but were otherwise limited to one teaser. AC Hexe is perhaps the most mysterious, but fans were quick to break down its teaser, concluding it likely has something to do with the Witch Hunts of Germany and the Holy Roman Empire. Both games are exciting, but development-wise, a recent rumor indicates Red is struggling while Hexe is about ready for the next stage.

According to Insider Gaming's source, Assassin's Creed Red is 'facing some issues in development,' though it seems the exact reasoning why is not detailed. This seemingly supports reports earlier this year, via TheGamer, that developers were leaving Assassin's Creed Red due to Jonathan Dumont's involvement, one of the many men accused of abuse and harassment within Ubisoft. It is unknown if TheGamer and Insider Gaming's sources are referencing the same "issues in development," but it does seem plausible.

Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed Hexe has reportedly received overwhelming positivity from those working on it, with Assassin's Creed Valhalla's lead writer Darby McDevitt spearheading this franchise entry. This positivity has existed since its proof-of-concept stages, with the game potentially entering full production soon. Finally, it is understood that AC Red is internally focusing on a 2024 release date, while AC Hexe could be a 2026 title. However, given the early stages of each game as well as the reported issues with Assassin's Creed Red, fans shouldn't mark these years on the calendar quite yet.

Game development is an ever-changing beast, after all, and Assassin's Creed Red could quickly get back on track/Hexe could stumble as production and development move forward. That's just the nature of the beast. And while fans shouldn't definitely treat this as a rumor and nothing more, it is nice to see that Ubisoft potentially has the next few years planned out. It's got to find its mojo between huge releases like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and avoid a tiring, annual release cadence, but it should be applauded for trying to offer something to all of the franchise's varied fans.
