Ubisoft is sharing an all new trailer for Assassin's Creed Origins showcasing the game's main antagonists, the nefariously named Order of the Ancients. The Order of the Ancients is quite literally the power behind the throne, manipulating the Pharaoh directly with mysterious powers. Bayek, Assassin's Creed Origins' protagonist, will have to fight a secret war against this masked group of villains for the future of Egypt.

This isn't the first time that the Order of the Ancients has been shown in an Assassin's Creed Origins trailer, funnily enough. The jackal-masked figure revealed as an Order of the Ancients member in today's trailer was in fact the first recognizable character shown in Assassin's Creed Origins' world premiere trailer at E3. Masked figures are snuck into many of Assassin's Creed Origins'  trailers, with the Gamescom trailer in particular having additional layers with the introduction of the Order of Ancients.

The Order of the Ancients is pursuing the power of the "ancient gods." At the end of the Gamescom cinematic trailer we see a masked figure that Bayek has attacked, a figure that's shown manipulating the Pharaoh directly, seemingly transform into a snake. In the first Assassin's Creed Origins trailer we see Bayek fighting a giant, otherworldly snake. Perhaps these powers of the ancient gods will be more viscerally felt in the world of Assassin's Creed Origins than supernatural powers have in previous games in the franchise.

The Order of the Ancients will provide an excellent group of villainous characters for Bayek to hunt down in Assassin's Creed Origins. It wouldn't be an Assassin's Creed game unless the player spent their time in-game hunting down key villains either to foil some dastardly plot or in revenge. Egyptian masks are great visual queues to indicate just who the bad guys could be. It's likely to be a dress code the Order of the Ancients regrets deciding on.

This trailer may be the most impressive yet for Assassin's Creed Origins. It's full of beautiful in-engine cinematic cutscenes, gorgeous lighting, and more than a dozen scenes that are very intriguing. Players won't have to wait much longer to discover for themselves just what mysteries await in Assassin's Creed Origins, but the wait's become that much more difficult to bear.

Assassin's Creed Origins releases October 24 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
