Fans of Ubisoft's latest entry in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed Origins, have a new reason to return to the title. The launch of its third installment of downloadable content is at hand with The Curse of the Pharaohs.

Following on from The Hidden Ones, and Discovery Tour, Assassin's Creed Originsfirst and second DLC packs, respectively, The Curse of the Pharaohs sends players to the ancient city of Thebes and other well-known historical locations, ranging from the Valley of the Kings – the location of most of the more famous pharaonic tombs – to the temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor. The launch trailer makes it very clear that this DLC is closer to the game's "Trials of the Gods" than previous DLC excursions, placing a heavy emphasis on the mythological rather than the historical.

Fans of Assassin's Creed Origins have complained about the price of the game's DLC packs in the past and for DLC not being included in the season pass, but such fears should be assuaged in this case. Curse of the Pharaohs features in the game's DLC season pass, and can be purchased separately for $19.99, which is a relatively average price for a full-size DLC such as this.

The storyline of this new DLC tasks Bayek, the game's protagonist, with defeating the restless spirits of ancient pharaohs, some of whom can clearly be seen in the launch trailer. Overcoming these powerful undead adversaries will require traveling into the Egyptian afterlife, wherein Bayek must overcome the five parts of each pharaoh's soul so as to lay them back to rest. These timed events will reappear in-game, becoming more powerful and challenging with each incarnation. Ubisoft has promised that the DLC will provide a challenge to even high-level players. Indeed, the DLC will also raise the game's level-cap to 55.

Curse of the Pharaohs Pits Players Against Ancient Undead

Since its release, Assassin's Creed Origins has had a strong post-launch calendar of both large and small DLC releases, but Curse of the Pharaohs brings that calendar to an end. However, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made comments at the company's latest financial briefing which suggested that Ubisoft was planning more DLC releases for the game, though it has yet to announce any such major releases to follow Curse of the Pharaohs.

In addition to the primary content, Curse of the Pharaohs will add in seven new abilities for Bayek, as well as new outfits, equipment, and weapons themed around ancient Egyptian mythology, in keeping with the rest of the DLC. With this new DLC, and the recent addition of a New Game Plus mode, fans of Assassin's Creed Origins may have plenty of reasons to return to the game.

Assassin's Creed Origins is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
