Assassin's Creed Odyssey has been so plagued by leaks that Ubisoft's decided to just go ahead and reveal as many details as it can just minutes before its official E3 2018 press conference. During a special E3 preview interview, Ubisoft revealed both Assassin's Creed Odyssey's release date and details on the action game's protagonist duo -- yes, duo! Pick up and play Assassin's Creed Odyssey starting October 5.
Players will be able to choose between two different protagonists in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Alexios and Kassandra, man and woman respectively, will both share the exact same story in the game, share the same origin. Ripped apart from their Spartan family at a young age, the player will be raised as a Spartan mercenary. The game begins as they receive a contract that will open up the world to them and lead them on their very own "Odyssey."
As rumored, Assassin's Creed Odyssey will take place in the Aegean Sea region to the east of Greece. The year is 431 BCE and it's the brink of the Peloponnesian War, a conflict stemming from Athens' domination of the region and the Spartan-led insurrection. Through this conflict, either Alexios or Kassandra will explore the themes of freedom and order, discovering for themselves what path truly holds value in their hearts.
In addition to the story of Alexios and Kassandra, Assassin's Creed Odyssey will also continue the modern day story of the franchise. Layla is continuing her research of the First Civilization, pursuing First Civilization artifacts. How that pursuit shapes the story of Alexios or Kassandra is up to the player's to discover.
Speaking of how players will discover the story of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, they'll also be able to shape it. A new focus for the game will be allowing player decisions to result in meaningful consequences. That's just in terms of the player's story, of course, because the well-recorded historical events of the Peloponnesian War aren't avoidable. Let's just say Sparta isn't an opponent anyone would choose.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey launches on October 5 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
