A few days ago, the creative director of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Jonathan Dumont, hosted an AMA on Reddit where he answered a number of questions, such as the role the latest installment in the franchise will play in the overall lore. Considering Odyssey takes place 400 years before Origins, many fans may be wondering how Assassins will play a role when Bayek's Order doesn't even exist yet.
This Assassin's Creed Odyssey news follows a rumor that has been circulating online indicating players will see the beginning of the Order present in Origins that later become the Templars. While this remains unknown, Dumont does confirm that Odyssey's story will revolve around "how First Civ artifacts created what would become the Templars vs Assassins story, which took place long before the Brotherhood."
While Dumont stops short of confirming the Order's role in the game, it seems likely that the antagonists in Assassin's Creed Origins return, since they are at the heart of this conflict. Moreover, it'll be interesting to see how the Pieces of Eden trigger this conflict, especially considering the protagonist wields one as an ancestral weapon.
Alexios or Kassandra wields the fabled Broken Spear of Leonidas, which is both a Piece of Eden and essentially a proto-Hidden Blade. Moreover, concerning the role the Pieces of Eden play in the Assassin-Templar conflict, Dumont was also asked if more than the Spear of Leonidas exists in the game. He confirmed that more would be present in the game, which is understandable since they play a major role in the initiation of the conflict, but wouldn't reveal more than that due to spoilers.
Game Rant considers Assassin's Creed Odyssey one of the best games of E3 2018, and this revelation concerning the Pieces of Eden playing a major role may definitely elevate the game's status. While they have been present in every game, from the Apple of Eden to the Sword of Eden, seeing how the artifacts contribute to the Assassin-Templar conflict will be a unique and interesting take for the franchise.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is scheduled to release on October 5, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
