Assassin's Creed Odyssey is the eleventh installment in the franchise. The game takes players more than two thousand years back in time. While the events of the Peloponnesian War unfold, gamers will play one of two mercenaries, with the option to side with Athens or Sparta. Odyssey is a completely new setting, with much more of an emphasis on role-playing than the previous Assassin's Creed titles.

However, AC Odyssey does take quite a while to complete. Mercenaries will need to log dozens of hours to complete the entire game. Luckily, there are a few ways to expedite the process of reaching the level 99 cap.

Updated on May 31, 2023, by Stephen LaGioia: Ubisoft's epic journey through antiquity is years old but has scarcely aged — with its gorgeous Greek vistas and dense, compelling gameplay. While the upcoming Mirage and Codename Red, among others, are sure to be epic, Odyssey should be able to comparatively hold its own on a technical level. AC Odyssey can seem a tad overwhelming for newcomers, and even veteran Assassins who may be revisiting after some time. With many techniques to level up quickly and effectively — as well as new details regarding exploits/glitches coming to light — we thought we'd refresh this handy guide.

Pile Up Good Contracts

AC Odyssey Legendary Contract

Contracts are a major part of AC Odyssey, and the game is absolutely full of them. Each region will have a slew of these side quests, many of which can be beaten fairly simply. Many find some inadvertently completed, especially when several are obtained at once.

Thus, it's a good idea to load up on as many of these contracts as possible, as they'll always be there — aside from timed Contracts. Additionally, focus on the 'Legendary' Contracts, which are highlighted on the menu screen in gold. Though even the quests tagged purple and blue grant higher-than-average XP.

Sail The Seas And Utilize Ship-Based Sidequests

The Adrestia Is The Players Ship In Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Sailing and ship battles are a particularly fun aspect of Odyssey, though they are also one of the more effective ways to rake in XP, both actively and passively. Players will be able to cover much ground on their ship, which will yield quick, easy XP for location discoveries.

Though it will also enable frequent battles with other ships and ample plunder. Seafarers can typically take out Bounty Hunters more efficiently here too. Be sure to gather many ship-based Contracts and Bounties while sailing for maximum effect.

Complete All Location Objectives In An Area

AC Odyssey Location objectives Melissani Cave

Odyssey encourages players to leave no stone unturned as it were, with segmented regions full of goodies and tasks. One good way to make quick use of an area and get ample XP is to complete the usually small list of location objectives. These include treasures to loot, high-level troops to target, and war supplies to burn.

Notching each of these tasks will not only yield loot but also loads of XP. Emphasizing stealth and using Ikaros to scan the area makes this task even simpler, as players can quickly pinpoint key locations.

Story Creator Mode Quest Exploits

Trypiti Fort Is Found On The Isle Of Melos In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

Gamers need to make sure they activate the Story Creator mode in the in-game settings. The mode will give players a handful of additional quests to complete. Several of the Story Creator mode quests have very high experience rewards for just a few minutes of gameplay.

The following sections will touch on a few great Creator quests and where to find them. Though the list will also feature various other options for gamers that do not want to exploit the Story Creator quests.

Ubisoft has cracked down on some of the more exploitative, speedy XP-farming Story Creator quests, though as of this writing, the following exploits still seem to be up and running.

Battle In The Cursed Valley Of Pali

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Synchronization Point Seaside

Players can find the quest titled "Battle" on the westernmost land in the gorgeous Kephallonia Islands. To get the quest to appear in-game, gamers will need to link their Ubisoft Club account to their in-game account. The quest marker will appear as a blue exclamation point on the map to the south of the Cursed Valley of Pali.

Players will receive a total of 35,000 experience points for completing the quest, which takes just a few minutes. The quest is a simple "kill all enemies" objective that will not require very much preparation or strategy. Assassins can hop in, kill a few bad guys, and reap the rewards.

Rulodoll In Mount Anos

The next quest assassins can complete is essentially just an experience farming quest. Just like the previous entry, players can find this Story Creator quest in the AC Odyssey Hub. Assassins should initiate the quest and speak with the NPC on Mount Anos in Markos's Vineyard. Then, they should choose the first option in the dialogue, and that is the entire quest.

Without doing anything but traveling to the location, players can farm the quest for experience. The quest will award assassins around 2,000 XP every time it is completed. It is mind-numbing to complete over and over, but probably the easiest quest available in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. With an XP boost, the quest will level up characters quickly.

Athenians Malaka

AC Odyssey running across wall towards Athenian soldier

One of the most recently verified (2023) Story Creator quests for quick XP, this Athenian-based romp has players scale a lengthy wall in the southern part of Attika, slaying various soldiers along the way. This is a long stretch of wall, and each soldier will be facing the outside, allowing for many quick, easy assassinations.

Each slain soldier will grant a significant portion of XP, as each death counts as a separate 'completed' quest. This one has some repetition and is quite literally straightforward, but it's a speedy way to collect plenty of XP in bunches.

Conquest Battles

Assassins Creed Odyssey Alexios In A Call To Arms Battle

Assassins that prefer playing the base game instead of completing created quests need to keep an eye out for conquest battles. Each of the battles will give out around 50,000 XP as a reward. The battles are quick and not very challenging.

There is a specific location in the center of Boeotia that is very close to the Fort of Platia. Players can complete all of the objectives in the Fort, which will reward players with tens of thousands of XP. After raiding the fort, it is time to complete the conquest and travel back to the fort to loot it again.

The Arena

Assassins Creed Odyssey

The Arena is always an effective way to gain a lot of XP in a fairly short period of time. Gamers that have not unlocked the arena yet have not yet progressed far enough through the story. The Arena is located all the way in the southeast of the map, in Pephka. Fights in the arena take a lot less time than many of the other options. Assassins will receive 35,000 XP if they win the fight, which is amazing for the quick objective.

Challengers will be level 50, so this option is better suited for gamers at higher levels. Like the other options, fighting in the Arena will get stale after a while, but it is a viable option for leveling up. There is a questline tied to the Arena, so players will need to speak with the Mercenary and complete all of the objectives before they will be able to re-play it.

Complete Bounties

Aya Assassins Creed Odyssey Elpidios

Gamers can also look at the message boards for bounties. There is a message board in every region, and there should be at least one bounty to complete in each.

Bounties are still one of the most efficient ways to gain experience in Odyssey. Assassins that have multiple bounties in one location should activate an XP boost and complete them all at once. Players can gather a large collection of them and complete a number of them in fairly short order.

Focusing On Main Quests

AC Odyssey Blood Fever Quest

Replaying some of the quests in the main storyline is a good way to get XP without any downtime. Assassins will earn XP throughout the entire mission and the quests can break up the monotony of the other options.

It might not be exciting to revisit previously completed story beats, but they do serve as dependable sources of XP.

PC XP Glitch

AC Odyssey PC Recruit glitch crouching on downed soldier

For players on PC, there is an XP glitch that can be used to reach the level cap wildly fast. Unfortunately, the glitch will only work on PC versions 1.0-1.21. New players should probably not use this method, as it will ruin the gaming experience. Assassin's Creed Odyssey's immersive story will not feel as exciting if players are beating up on every enemy in the game.

  • Bind the secondary weapon and crouch to the same key
  • When an enemy is down, press the recruit button over and over
  • Make sure to not execute the recruit and the character will get XP indefinitely for the motion

Because the menu for keybinds is not available on console, only PC gamers can exploit the mechanic.

Infinite Double XP

AC Odyssey Ubisoft Store XP boost

People are now able to get a free two-hour XP boost at the Club Store in-game. Instead of leaving the XP boost active, gamers can pause it while playing the game. If they wait to activate it right before a quest is turned in, players can get the extra XP without running down the timer for more than a few seconds. Repeat this process during the story and it will easily get the character to level 30. Also, gamers should remember to activate the XP boost before completing one of the many general quests in the game.

Of course, people can always just purchase the infinite XP boost from the store. It is one of the most worthwhile boosts to purchase because it stays active for multiple characters. Whether players decide to cheat the system or just buy the indefinite XP boost, they will reach the max level in no time.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
