At Ubisoft’s E3 conference, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was officially unveiled, and the developers look to be taking the game the farthest into the RPG genre than ever before. Among a bevy of features that push the gameplay into that genre, the game will include dialogue choices that will allow players to choose their path.

The developers say that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has a strong campaign story that will include some choices for the player to make, but there will also be smaller side quests and stories that players will have control over via dialogue choices. Some of those choices can even lead to romance options, as it looks as though Ubisoft is taking a page out of BioWare’s book. According to developers, even the choices made in the side quests will have an impact on the overall game experience.

Although the game won’t feature companions like a BioWare game, Ubisoft says that through the conversation and dialogue choice systems, players will be able to form friendships and relationships with NPCs. Some of those NPCs may even include notable historic figures like Socrates.

In the demo shown at E3, one of the protagonists that players can play as, Kassandra, is given a mission to kill a high value target. She must talk to another person to get information on the target. When she reaches her destination, she is given another choice: join a full-scale assault against the Athenians in a large battle.

Through dialogue, the player can choose whether to turn down the offer to join and pursue the target on her own or join the Athenians and take out the target who is leading the opposing army. In the demo, the choice is to join the Athenians in battle which leads Kassandra down a beach to face off against her target. While not shown, it can be assumed that the rest of the quest would play out much differently.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will release on October 5, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
