Many fans were hopeful that Ubisoft would show off a new Assassin's Creed Mirage trailer at The Game Awards 2022, and while that's not the case, Ubisoft Bordeaux has seen fit to release a new screenshot of the game. Some fans may be clinging onto hope for new Assassin's Creed Mirage information during any potential Assassin's Creed Day events (December 21), but based on the release of this screenshot, this seems unlikely.Furthermore, recent reports suggest that Assassin's Creed Mirage has been internally delayed twice. AC Mirage has never been given a public release date, just a window of 2023, but as it stands, it seems fans may be able to expect this title in August 2023. That's plenty of time for Ubisoft to market the game, and while a single screenshot isn't much for the month, it's the context of the screenshot that stands out.RELATED: Assassin's Creed Jade Gameplay Leaks OnlineTo close out 2022 as a whole, including recent the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise reveals and AC's 15th Anniversary celebrations, Ubisoft Bordeaux has released a new Assassin's Creed Mirage screenshot that is a near 1:1 recreation of a beloved screenshot of the original AC1. The short video below shows how close the two are, while a follow-up tweet attaches a wallpaper version for download. But in short, the background is changed to fit Assassin's Creed Mirage's Baghdad setting, Basim takes the place of Altair, and the enemies are swapped to be fitting. But otherwise, it's a rock-solid recreation in terms of posture, style, and so on.

While Assassin's Creed Mirage is closely connected to AC1, as it takes place during the height of the Hidden Ones before the transition into the Assassins (and Altair's subsequent reformation of them), it's important to note that it is its own game. Every AC game is closely connected and perhaps AC Mirage more than most because of its timeline placement, gameplay style, and choice of protagonist in Basim, but it is Basim's story first and foremost, with core pillars of assassination and parkour to stand on.

Fans are obviously eager to learn more, and for the hungriest of fans, one screenshot may not sate them. However, what's most important is that Ubisoft is able to ship a product it can be proud of. With projects like Assassin's Creed Red and AC Hexe on the horizon, AC Mirage is truly a testing ground if the classic approach has any room in its future plans. Ubisoft is seemingly open to that, but AC Mirage's reception may very well influence that ultimate decision.

Assassin's Creed Mirage releases in 2023 for Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
