Possible Red Dead Redemption Spoilers AheadAssassin's Creed Mirage introduces a new feature called Assassin's Focus, which by description alone sounds a lot like Red Dead Redemption's Dead Eye feature. Indeed, while Assassin's Creed Mirage is honoring the older games in more ways than one, it is still seeking to set itself apart by making everything more modernized. This includes the introduction of new features.

The franchise, as a whole, seems to be moving in a ton of different directions, all reflecting a more modern take on the franchise. Instead of shoehorning fans into one distinctive style of game, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a classic action-adventure game, Assassin's Creed Red is an open-world RPG, and Assassin's Creed Hexe is billed as something different altogether. Hopefully, Ubisoft keeps this up because exploring every possible aspect and approach for the franchise is worthwhile, including even taking a few notes from Rockstar's wild west title (which may or may not be what happened).

Red Dead's Dead Eye Targeting vs. Assassin's Creed Mirage's Assassin's Focus

As many know, both Red Dead Redemption 2 games allow players to "slow down" time, pick their targets, and fire at them all at once. Of course, time doesn't really slow down in-game, but it's a reflection of how quickly a gunslinger like Arthur Morgan or John Marston can fire their weapons of choice. The very same concept is at play with Assassin's Focus. Assassin's Creed Mirage allows players, as Basim, to "slow down" time, pick their targets, and assassinate them in quick succession. There are quite a few details to be confirmed regarding this feature, such as how players build up access to this ability, how many targets can be killed at first/endgame, how close they've got to be, and so on.

However, the ability hinges on a similar concept to Dead Eye. This ability is perfectly fitting for Assassin's Creed Mirage's Basim because Ubisoft has designed him to be more agile than past characters like Eivor. It doesn't replace assassinations but is a good way of modernizing the concept that can be really fun, especially if it leads to some unique animations and fun kills. There is one more potential use for this ability, outside just fun gameplay though.

The death of John Marston in Red Dead Redemption is one of the most heartbreaking points of the franchise. He's the "last enemy to be destroyed," befitting the story mission, and he knows this when he sends his family away. Going out swinging though, players can use Dead Eye, select a few targets, but still ultimately fail, showing how his skills as a gunslinger can't really give him a good, peaceful life.

In a similar vein, although this is PURE speculation, it would be interesting to see Basim fail utterly at something (because he can't die) despite stringing together a series of assassinations through Assassin's Focus. This gameplay mechanic could emphasize one of his major failings near the end of Assassin's Creed Mirage's story, with this mechanic putting a lot of emotion into the story beat. Whether something like that does happen is obviously in the air, but it's an interesting mechanic nonetheless.

Assassin's Creed Mirage releases in 2023 for Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
