Ubisoft has finally shed some light on what the future of Assassin's Creed will look like, and the long rumored Assassin's Creed Infinity is going to be a part of it. Fans of the franchise have a lot of titles in Ubisoft's flagship franchise to look forward to. They will be able to explore Baghdad in Assassin's Creed Mirage, finally embark on an adventure in Japan in Assassin's Creed Codename Red, and go on a spookier adventure in Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe. Along with those titles, players will be able to look forward to the future of Assassin's Creed with Infinity.

Assassin's Creed Infinity has long been rumored and is supposedly going to represent the future of the franchise, but Ubisoft has not been very clear on just what it is. Originally, rumors suggested that it was going to be a live-service title with multiple eras and serve as the platform for the franchise going forward. At the most recent Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft unveiled Codename Red and Codename Hexe, and then went on to say that those two games would be connected through Infinity. That has made many people wonder just what Infinity is supposed to be, and Ubisoft has not done much to further explain it.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is the Future of Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Infinity was announced alongside the next entries in the franchise, but Ubisoft did not really elaborate on what it was. People once thought it was a game, but this announcement made it sound much more like a launcher. Now, interviews suggest that it is even more than a launcher, as it will continue the modern-day storyline and feature a brand-new multiplayer mode. That makes it sound like it is a game, but it will also apparently be a launcher and a hub; and that is where the current confusion lies.

According to Ubisoft, Infinity will serve as a platform that connects past and future Assassin's Creed games. This platform will launch alongside Codename Red, and it will represent the future of the franchise. Players will still be able to purchase Codename Red or Hexe as they would any other game, but the games will be connected through this hub. This all makes it sound like it will serve as a brand-new launcher for Assassin's Creed like Ubisoft Connect, but it will apparently be far more.

Ubisoft plans for Assassin's Creed Infinity to be a lot more than a launcher. The modern-day storyline will now live inside Infinity, and all future Assassin's Creed titles will be solely exploring the past. The story that Ubisoft wants to tell with it will evolve overtime and put the player at the center as Infinity will apparently operate like a real-life Animus. The hub will also feature a multiplayer mode that connects all the different games together, and that only makes the concept more confusing.

Assassin's Creed Infinity has many game elements and will feature several other Assassin's Creed video games, but it is not going to be a game itself. It will not be a launcher, either, as it will be something different. Players will load up the various games through Infinity, and it will allow Ubisoft to make all sorts of different titles of various size. If it pans out then it will serve as the next evolution of the franchise, but fans would really like to know what to expect.

Ubisoft Needs to Show Players What Infinity Is

Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Infinity seems to be attempting a bunch of different things, and it can be very confusing trying to figure out just what it is. Many parts of it sound like it is a simple launcher, while other parts of it sound like it is a game. Ubisoft did little to alleviate this confusion when it announced it at the Ubisoft Forward, and the interviews have not helped much. The best way for Ubisoft to break through this confusion would be to show the product, or at least show concept art of some kind.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is most likely a ways off, as Codename Red will be the first title that uses it. Assassin's Creed Mirage is the next entry in the franchise, and that launches in 2023. Ubisoft has not said when Codename Red will launch, but it will most likely be in 2024 or beyond. It does not even have a name yet, and all players have seen is a logo, which could mean that the game will not be ready for a little while. That would also mean that Infinity is a ways off, and Ubisoft may not have a working version of the hub ready.

Assassin's Creed fans are a little confused about what this hub is actually trying to be, and Ubisoft needs to show them something. While it may not be working yet, the fan base at least deserves to see concept art in whatever stage it is in. Showing off some concept art lets the fans better visualize just what this new future will look like, and Ubisoft can use it as a way to better explain just what it is thinking. If anything, the studio just needs to provide a clearer message of what this will look like outside the various interviews that the developers have done.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is supposed to be the future of the franchise, but many fans have been left confused. It sounds like a launcher in one breath but a game in another, and that has made many players scratch their heads. It needs to show off just what Infinity will look like, or it needs to just explain it better. If players better understood what it was then more of them may jump on board the hype train, because right now many players are simply waiting at the station.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is currently in development.
