With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla set to get support for quite a while longer, fans shouldn’t really expect information on Assassin’s Creed Infinity anytime soon. Infinity represents the next step in the franchise’s “evolution,” but whether that’s good or bad remains to be seen. The move from action-adventure game to action RPG has yielded mixed reception from fans, but Assassin’s Creed Infinity is an evolving world with multiple settings.

Even though it is inspired by games like Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto Online, exactly what form this iteration takes remains to be seen. The “multiple settings” aspect is interesting though, as it poses a lot of questions: is it all just via the animus and, if so, how will these multiple assassins (presumably?) be represented? Does it have stakes for the modern-day? If so, will Basim somehow be the protagonist or will he meet his end in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? Perhaps the most important question for many fans, however, is what locations will appear in Assassin's Creed Infinity?

Assassin’s Creed Infinity and Multiple Locations

Since it is seemingly being billed as a live service game, chances are players will see a handful of locations at launch—in some form—and continue to receive new locations and storylines via updates. At least, that seems the best way to incorporate the settings and all into the game, perhaps something more akin to Marvel’s Avengers and its heroes than GTA Online and its updates.

What those locations are is anyone’s guess, but Assassin’s Creed Infinity wouldn’t go wrong by including Japan in its launch line-up. Not only is it the most fan-demanded location of Ubisoft, but fans can even see this in how much Ghost of Tsushima was compared to Assassin’s Creed. It would seem the franchise was even headed this way at one point, and if it releases a game with multiple settings without utilizing Japan, it’s going to seem even weirder.

Assassin’s Creed Needs to Quit Avoiding Japan

There are two key pieces of evidence related to Assassin’s Creed planning to go to Japan. The first is found in Assassin’s Creed 3, during a scene where an Egyptian Eye of Horus, the Greek Omega letter, and a Japanese Torri (gate for sacred sites). This would suggest a trilogy or series of games, yet after Origins (Egypt) and Odyssey (Greece), the series went to Valhalla’s Viking time period instead.

Secondly, the Abstergo e-mail in Assassin’s Creed 4 lists several possible locations for future games, and although some are clearly red herrings, the fact remains the Ashikaga Shogunate is listed there. Why Ubisoft opted for a different time period is unknown, but Japan has been heavily teased by the games themselves.

While the form Assassin’s Creed Infinity takes is a bigger question mark, "where" shouldn’t be so much and fans would likely accept "when" when it comes to a Japanese time period. There are a lot of locations for Assassin’s Creed Infinity fans would enjoy seeing, sure, and featuring multiple settings means there’s more than enough room for surprises. However, it’s time that these teases came to fruition in some form, and Assassin’s Creed takes in Japan as an in-game location.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is in development.
