Assassin’s Creed Infinity is still in early development, meaning fans may not get another game until 2023 at the earliest. Even that feels like being generous. Notably, the new live-service direction has split fans, especially because no one actually knows what it looks like. Assassin’s Creed Infinity could effectively be a more spread-out version of AC Valhalla or could it be a far cry from past entries in the franchise with a barebones release and a bigger emphasis on microtransactions.

One common, recurring rumor is that Infinity will tell more micro-stories with Assassins, adding new characters and locations to Assassin’s Creed Infinity. At the same time, Infinity serves as sort of a central hub for the overarching lore, with some rumors suggesting that it’ll also feature “remakes” of past games, fixing or retconning some storylines for the sake of clarity.

One could, in theory, argue with Infinity “remaking” the Ezio Trilogy as they are some of the most beloved and classic games in the franchise. However, these games have received improvements in the past and stand well on their own. Remaking them in Infinity could have the opposite effect of other games by stomping on Ezio’s nostalgia, so if there’s one selection of games Infinity shouldn’t touch, it’s the Ezio Trilogy.

These “remakes” wouldn’t be full remakes in Assassin’s Creed Infinity, but more of an adaptation to Infinity’s overall playstyle and story delivery. Whether it’s just old gameplay or for story reasons, here are a couple of “classic” AC games that deserve a little attention in Infinity, should these rumors be true.

Assassin’s Creed 1

Altair From Assassin's Creed 1 and Altair From Assassin's Creed Revelations

Altair’s story is the definition of a classic in the franchise, and story-wise, it shouldn’t really be touched. It could, in theory, be expanded if there were some references to the Hidden Ones transitioning into the Assassins in the years prior, as that happens between Valhalla and AC1 on the timeline, but that’s not really a huge issue either way.

Updated gameplay to match Infinity’s capabilities should be the main focus, and it would be nice for many fans to step into Altair’s shoes once more. After all, many fans have wanted an Assassin’s Creed 1 Remake any way, prior to Infinity’s announcement.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation

Aveline had a lot of potential but was instead relegated to a spin-off. Expanding the game into Infinity’s structure with a better depiction of AC Liberation's New Orleans and Louisana Bayou, the removal or at least diminishing of the odd disguise gameplay, and a stronger story connected to the franchise as a whole, or at least more so to AC3, would help this particular story not feel so left out.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China

Shao Jun AC

The chronicles games are loved by many in the franchise, but at the end of the day, they are side-scrolling spin-offs with little-to-no bearing on the franchise. If it’s a choice between Nikolai Orelov, Arbaaz Mir, and Shao Jun though, the latter deserves the spotlight more. Not only does she have her own dedicated fanbase within the community, but she’s more important overall thanks to her relationship with Ezio. Updating Shao Jun’s story and playstyle, allowing fans to actually experience a triple-A approach with her would be a big boon to Infinity’s structure.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag

If, in this process, Ubisoft is indeed looking to expand and clarify some storylines, there’s room to do so with Assassin’s Creed 4. Fans know that Desmond gives his life to stop the Second Catastrophe in AC3, letting Juno out in the process. After her escape in AC3, she plays a small role in AC4 and even appears—in a memory—during AC Odyssey’s DLC, but her storyline was relegated to a comic book, where she was defeated by Desmond’s son, Elijah (who he did not know existed).

Since retcons aren’t supposedly off the table and Elijah could be deemed non-canon, it would be interesting to see a take where Juno’s storyline does come to an end, perhaps due to some event in Infinity's AC4 that echoes to the modern-day. It should, by all means, keep the pirate elements, but whereas the story of the Sage comes and goes, it would be great to see it overall reach some resolution. Even if it were a bit of a past puzzle that results in a modern-day cutscene, resolving Juno’s storyline in-game would make a lot of fans happy.
