Ubisoft has very recently announced the next step in its beloved Assassin's Creed franchise, with the new project currently in development under the title Assassin's Creed Infinity. Assassin's Creed Infinity aims to take the franchise from its annual and bi-annual release structures to a bold new live-service model, where entirely new content and campaigns will be added on a regular basis.

The reception to the announcement has been quite mixed, with some fans being optimistic about the whole ordeal while others have been worried about the changes that it could end up bringing to the series. Whatever the case may be, it's still quite fun to speculate on what release window Ubisoft might have on the cards for its biggest Assassin's Creed project to date.

When Will Assassin's Creed Infinity Release?

Assassin's Creed is undoubtedly one of the biggest IPs under the French giant, and Ubisoft has been quite adamant about releasing as much Assassin's Creed content that it possibly can up until very recently. Ever since Assassin's Creed 2 hit shelves in 2009, Ubisoft consistently released an Assassin's Creed title every year with the exception of 2016, where the series took a gap to evolve into an action RPG with 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins that veered from the franchise's stealth roots.

2019 was also a gap year for the series, which resulted in 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Valhalla is easily the most expansive game in the series yet with a plethora of expansions already available, and Ubisoft has assured fans that post-launch content will be doled out well into the second year of the game's release. Ubisoft's predicament with the Assassin's Creed brand is to keep it relevant in the minds of fans, taking breaks only when it is absolutely required. Given that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will receive new content up until 2022, it gives a great starting-off point for basing predictions around Infinity's unclear release date.

Assassin's Creed Infinity: The Next Evolution

Assassin's Creed Infinity can be loosely termed as the next evolution of the series, as the live-service model will replace traditional Assassin's Creed releases. In the official announcement, Ubisoft did state about Infinity's purpose to stop passing "the baton" of developing entries between studios and instead form an umbrella under which the future of the franchise will continue. This does support the aforementioned sentiment, although it isn't entirely confirmed just yet. Thus, it makes sense that Ubisoft should provide its studios enough time to ensure consistently high-quality standards - even if it means taking a year off from the franchise to achieve that goal.

This puts Assassin's Creed Infinity's potential release window sometime around 2024, although it could definitely arrive earlier or later. Infinity might just be Ubisoft's first cross-studio collaboration - where each of the studios has a creative lead for the project. Furthermore, both studios are Ubisoft's top performers; each with thousands of employees capable of turning out huge open-worlds within a relatively short span of time. Depending on the amount of content and scope of the world that Ubisoft is aiming to have ready with the initial launch of Infinity, the game could arrive as early as 2023. Of course, this is purely speculation, and fans should not bank on any release windows until one is officially revealed by Ubisoft itself.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is currently in development for unspecified platforms.
