Assassin's Creed is a series that has Templars and Assassins fight each other for artifacts from the First Civilization. The Assassins in the series are after the artifacts to keep the Templars from ruling the world. Aside from saving the world and diving into haystacks from towers, the Assassins also have some memorable characters.

The Assassin's Creed series spans multiple settings and time periods, making each game's Assassin(s) a little more unique. The games range as far back as Greece during the Peloponnesian War to modern day. Taking the time periods  each game was set, here are all of the main Assassins in the game ranked.

15 Desmond

Desmond is the descendant of all of the Assassins from Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Desmond was kidnapped by Abstergo and the Templars, but is rescued by the Assassins. Despite being a descendant of the best Assassins in the world, Desmond's skills do not get a lot of attention in the series.

If there was more combat and modern missions with Desmond, he might be higher ranked than this. The one good thing he did is sacrifice his life so the world would not end on December 21, 2012. For fans of Desmond and his bloodline, don't worry as his bloodline is carried on by a son he unknowingly fathered.

14 Lydia Frye

Lydia Frye is the granddaughter of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate protagonist Jacob Frye. Lydia is playable in a special mission where she saves World War I London from German spies.

Despite the importance of her mission, she is only shown in one memory and is not mentioned again. She is asked by Winston Churchill to defeat a German spy ring, in return Churchill promises Lydia he will fight for women's rights when he returns to parliament.

13 Malik Al-Sayf

Malik is first seen while on a mission with Altair in Assassin's Creed. Altair alerts enemies to the Assassins' presence, which causes Malik to get injured. The injury is severe enough, his arm must be amputated and leaves him with only a right arm.

Because of this amputation, Malik becomes the bureau leader of Jerusalem, giving Altair information about targets. Later in life, Malik becomes Altair's right-hand man -- rather fitting. His life comes to an end, however, when there is a coup and Abbas sends Malik's decapitated head to Altair.

12 Nikolai Orelov

Nikolai is a member of the Russian Brotherhood and is a playable character in Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia. Nikolai was in Russia during the Russian Revolution and fought against the Soviets.

Breaking from history, Nikolai saved Anastasia Romanov and helped her escape from Russia. Later in life, he gave up on the Brotherhood and left. A notable descendant of Nikolai Orelov's is Daniel Cross, who is seen in Assassin's Creed III.

11 Layla Hassan

Layla Hassan is the new playable character in the modern storyline of Assassin's Creed. Layla was a former employee of Abstergo who goes on to work for the Assassin Brotherhood.

Layla relives the memories of Bayek and Aya in Assassin's Creed: Origins and the memories of Kassandra in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. One of the coolest parts of the series is when Layla gets to meet Kassandra in person, with Kassandra's life being extended because of the Staff of Hermes.

10 Liam O'Brien

Liam O'Brien is former friend of Assassin-turned-Templar and playable character of Assassin's Creed: Rogue, Shay Cormac. Liam is the reason Shay Cormac joined the Assassin Brotherhood. During the beginning part of Assassin's Creed: Rogue, Shay and Liam can be seen always close together and having each other's backs.

After Shay Cormac's betrayal. Liam attacks the Templars to try to disrupt their plans in the colonies. Liam and Shay have one last showdown, with Shay ultimately killing his former best friend.

9 Achilles

Achilles was the leader of the Assassin Brotherhood in the colonies before Shay Cormac leaked it. After the collapse of the Brotherhood, Achilles retired to his manor to forget his past life.

Achilles was brought back into the Assassin Brotherhood by Connor, the son of Templar Haytham Kenway. Connor searched for Achilles in order to hunt for the men who set his village on fire. Achilles helped Connor, which in turn brings the Assassin Brotherhood back to the colonies and then the United States. Before seeing this, though, Achilles passes away in his home.

8 Frye Twins

Evie and Jacob Frye are both the protagonists of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. The twins hunt Templars through 1860s London while meeting famous historical figures, such as a young Arthur Conan Doyle, Queen Victoria, and Karl Marx.

The twins are credited with saving Queen Victoria from an assassination, earning both of them knighthood. Both also rebuilt the Assassin Brotherhood in London, along with ending Jack the Ripper's terror through London.

7 Connor

Connor is the son of Templar Master Haytham Kenway and a Native American mother. Connor is trained under Achilles to become an Assassin and hunt down the Templars in the colonies. During his hunt, Connor becomes the captain of a ship, helps in the American Revolution, and takes part in historical events that shape the beginning of the United States.

It is revealed the murderer is Shay Cormac, but the murder causes Arno Dorian to be adopted by Grand Master of the French Templars, François de la Serre.

Arno hunts down Templars around Paris during the French Revolution, despite the numerous tragedies that befall his life. Arno later becomes a Master Assassin and tries to bridge the gap between Templars and Assassins, a promise he made do a dying Élise.

5 Aveline

Aveline is an Assassin who lived in New Orleans during the 18th century and is the playable character in Assassin's Creed: Liberation. She was the child of a wealthy merchant, and used this to her advantage. Aveline was able to disguise herself to fit into any social situation, making it easier to assassinate her target.

Due to her activities, Aveline was able to rid New Orleans of all Templars. She also went to New York to help Connor hunt down a Loyalist, helping in the American Revolution. Aveline did not let her status as a merchant's daughter affect her morals, as she still fought for people who could not fight for themselves.

4 Edward Kenway

Edward Kenway is a pirate-turned-Assassin in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Edward first discovered the Assassin Brotherhood after he killed Duncan Walpole and took his robes. Edward might have accidentally became an Assassin, but he was an important figure in the Brotherhood.

Edward is the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Connor Kenway. After killing the Templars in the Caribbean, Edward returns to London. After intruders break into his home, Edward is killed, bringing an end to the assassin's life.

3 Bayek & Aya

Bayek and Aya both lived in Ancient Egypt and began hunting the proto-Templars after their son is killed by them. They are both considered to be the founders of the Assassin Brotherhood, taking on the name The Hidden Ones. Bayek was one of the last Medjays of Egypt and Aya went on to become known as Amunet.

2 Altair

Altair is an Assassin who lived through the Crusades and is playable in Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Altair was reckless and had his rank stripped at the beginning of the first game. By the end, Altair discovered the current leader of the Assassin Brotherhood was a traitor and Altair killed him.

Altair became a prominent member of the Assassin Brotherhood and was responsible for bringing the order back together after a coup against him. Altair lived a long life, dying at the age of 92.
