The rumor mill has begun turning on the next Assassin’s Creed title, with the codename “Dynasty” circulating thanks to someone who allegedly worked at Technicolor on the animation for the project.
PlayStation Universe recently published the results of an interview with an animator who may have had a part in an upcoming Assassin’s Creed title. While an update to the article made it clear that the interviewee no longer works at Technicolor (and is thus not currently working on the game), the unnamed source did claim that the newest installment in the franchise would be titled Assassin’s Creed Dynasty.
Interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Origins started leaking early last year, though at the time it was known as Assassin’s Creed Empire. Thus, while the name “Dynasty” could be subject to change, it does give some insight into when and where the next Assassin’s Creed might be set.
The clear assumption based on this leaked name is that the game could take place in China, though countries like Japan (also known for their dynasties) are obviously still on the table. However, working with the premise of the game being set in China could see Shao Jun - star of 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China and apprentice to Ezio Auditore da Firenze - taking the leading role.
While this is purely speculation, if it turns out to be true, it could mean that the Chronicles miniseries was a sort of test bed for new Assassin’s Creed locations. Perhaps full games in India and Russia could follow Dynasty?
There’s still a lot of blanks to be filled in here, and so far, Ubisoft hasn’t made any comment regarding the statement. Plus, with the recent Final Fantasy 15/Assassin’s Creed crossover, could the codename “Dynasty” instead be referring to a crossover with Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors series? As is the case with many such leaks, only time will tell. Keep an eye out for further news on the title, though, as at the very least, it seems that there’s something new brewing on Assassin’s Creed’s horizon.
