We’ve been seeing a trend starting for a while now of developers adding supplemental content for a game on the widely used Facebook. This year has given us Facebook apps for Red Dead Redemption, Crackdown 2, and gamers even had the opportunity to gain more XP in Gears of War via the social network. Ubisoft plans to join this growing group as they’ve just announced supplemental Facebook material for their upcoming Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.

Entitled Assassin’s Creed: Project Legacy‘, the Facebook game will allow gamers to unlock bonus content for their copy of Brotherhood. Not much is known as to what “bonus content” means, but if you play Legacy you will be able to earn more XP for the multiplayer component of Brotherhood before it launches in November. Check out Game Rant’s impressions of the Brotherhood beta to get an idea of the benefits of more XP. Ubisoft has also gone the extra mile and included unlocks for the Facebook game in every copy of Brotherhood. Referring to the functionality as a “virtuous cycle”, as you progress through the game’s campaign you’ll be able to unlock up to 25 extra missions, experience, and in game currency for Legacy.

Project Legacy is described as a strategy title, similar to Mafia Wars. Additionally, Ubisoft has referred to their new project as the first in what they call “companion games”. No word on what other titles they’ve announced that they plan on adding to their new effort, but if Legacy proves to be successful it’s not crazy to think we’ll see a lot more of these “companion games” quickly.

If any of you Ranters are even the least bit curious as to what Legacy is going to be like, well, I’ve got good news: when you wake up tomorrow to log in to see if you’ve got any new friend requests, you’ll be able to play Ubisoft’s newest Facebook game.

Do you play Facebook games? If not, would you feel more compelled to if they offered in-game bonuses for games you were looking forward to? You know what to do, Ranters. Hit us up in the comments below.

Assassin’s Creed: Project Legacy launches October 1st, 2010 on Facebook.
