The premise of the Assassin’s Creed series is so bizarre that ruling out fan theories can never be an option. After all, the story has to do with people in the future using a machine to live past events and find clues about an ancient civilization that once ruled the Earth.
Due to this fantastical backdrop, fan theories tend to be over-the-top themselves, to the point where they’re so crazy that they might as well turn out to be true in the future. While chances are slim that this will be the case for sure, it’s still worth looking into as these fan theories present a new way of perceiving the series lore.
10 The Creed Has Always Referred To The Animus
Ezio explained at the end of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations what the meaning behind the creed’s motto of “nothing is true, everything is permitted” was supposed to be. While he interpreted that it was something about free will, this theory takes another look at it.
According to the theory, the motto has always been a reference to the Animus. This would mean that the future was already impacting the past, which would be a remarkable route for the plot to take since it would take place in reverse.

The Assassins and Templars will need to band together to fight them. Under the theory, it’s Adam and Eve who’ve set up the assassins from the get-go, with Origins’ events possible because of the workings of Adam and Eve to make the creed possible.

There are always things you don’t know you can do in Assassin’s Creed games, and the explanation for this just might lie in this theory. According to it, the Isu ran so many simulations for the future of the Earth that there isn’t one true timeline.
Instead, the RPG-like elements in the recent games are such because the Isu calculations are coming up with multiple possibilities, all of which exist at the same time. Under this logic, everything that can happen has happened and it’s a matter of which timeline we want to believe in.

The name of Shay Cormac never comes up in wish lists for assassins that fans want to see return, as he defected and joined the Templars. According to this theory, it’s the assassins who are the bad guys all along and have come across as the good guys because we’ve been playing under their point of view.
The theory suggests that the bad Templars seen so far are the ones who went off the rails and that the true order is a benevolent one. As for the assassins, their plans have always been to upset the system, making them anarchists who mess with society.

Ever notice how certain historical facts tend not to be true? Well, that might be the case because it was never supposed to be accurate in the first place. According to this theory, the entire series has been a simulation right from the get-go.
It’s already known that the Isu ran simulations for the future, so the theory argues that the simulation hasn’t stopped yet. Under this context, whatever’s happened so far is just the calculations predicting what might happen and that the series’ events haven’t actually come to pass at all.
4 Layla Forms A Third Faction To Wipe Out Assassins And Templars
Those who kept up with the quotes in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will have noticed how Layla’s seemed to veer towards rather unhinged ones. This theory claims that she’s been progressively turning insane as the Isu look to control her.
Eventually, Layla will form a third faction to wipe out both assassins and Templars in order to place the Isu back as the rulers of the world. This will force the prior two factions to band together and avoid the Isu and Layla from seizing power. Considering how Layla’s been manipulated from the start, this scenario might just be possible.
3 The Animus Can Change The Past
The many decisions shown in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has changed the series going forward, and this theory suggests that the changes are literal in nature. It argues that the Animus doesn’t just look into the past, it can also manipulate it.
The advancements in the Animus version might mean future versions can outright change the past, making the Animus an actual time machine. Seeing as the Isu calculations have been directly able to speak to characters across time, there’s definitely a chance for this theory to come to pass.
2 Other Ubisoft Games Exist In The Assassin's Creed Universe
The Assassin’s Creed games are the main universe for other Ubisoft titles, according to this theory. These would include Far Cry, Splinter Cell, and Watch Dogs. The argument is that Sam Fisher is actually a Templar spy who works for the shadow government which is actually Abstergo in reality.
Watch Dogs is supposed to be the work of an assassin who upsets the system to fight Abstergo’s machinations. Finally, the theory suggests that Far Cry 3 is about a man who’s been forced to fight for his life as part of Abstergo’s human testing. This is all too “out there” not to at least be a possibility.
1 Previous Events Will Need To Be Revisited And Fixed
Due to the many mistakes carried forward from previous games in Valhalla, the Assassin’s Creed needs to fix its problems. According to this theory, this will be taken in the literal sense in a future game, where we’ll have to revisit past events.
The idea is that time will be getting fractured, and in order to fix it, the protagonists will be sent back to the past during events that have already been seen. This will show a different perspective to established events, as the main characters will have to ensure history passes as it should be.
