Assassin's Creed Ascendance Is An Animated Tease

It's no secret that Assassin's Creed is fast becoming Ubisoft's bread and butter franchise, if it hasn't already. The next chapter in the series, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, is scheduled to launch next week and Ubisoft has been hyping gamers up with developer diaries, Facebook games, and of course, a multiplayer beta. Not content with just that, they've let Ubi Workshop step into the limelight to unveil their newest, animated project: Assassin's Creed Ascendance.

Below is the teaser trailer for Ascendance, in it's short, animated glory.

What exactly is Assassin's Creed Ascendance? Sorry to disappoint, Ranters, but your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that Ubi Workshop is a part of Ubisoft that's in charge of transmedia projects, which according to their about page means elaborating the stories of their universes through movies, artwork, and comics. With that in mind, it looks like a safe bet that Ascendance is a motion comic or perhaps even a cartoon that will help flesh out or transition into the story of Brotherhood. Is this something Ubisoft plans to make web-exclusive?

At this year's San Diego Comic Con, Ubisoft announced an Assassin's Creed comic book that, coincidentally, hit stores today. Cameron Stewart and Karl Kerschl illustrate the Creed comic, and the story for the book is set in Russia. Is Assassin's Creed Ascendance an animated interpretation of Stewart and Kerschl's work, or is it another tale in the Assassin's universe? Rest assured Ranters, you'll know as soon as we find out more details.

What about you? Do you have any ideas as to just what exactly Ascendance is? What do you want it to be? Do you enjoy supplemental content from a gaming universe you enjoy, even if it means being on a different medium? Let your voice be heard and sound off in the comments section below.

Assassin's Creed Ascendance currently has no release date.
