‘Assassin’s Creed 3’ Trailer Spotlights Weapons

By | 5 years ago

Weapons may be somewhat overlooked in a gaming world filled with more shooters and third-person slice-and-dicers than ever, but as Freud tells us, a sword is rarely ever just a sword. Any who have been following AC3 since the first leaked image dropped know how much significance was immediately placed in the new hero’s tomahawk and quiver. Ultimately, theories of a Native American hero were proven accurate when Connor was introduced to fans as the newest ancestor of Desmond Miles.

Loyal fans should have no fear that the American weapons will be replacing those of the legendary Assassin Order, as the newest weapon trailer also gives a look at yet another Hidden Blade, even if we have yet to see it in action. Take a look at Connor’s personal arsenal now:

There was never any doubt that Connor would be more than equipped to deal with foes both armed and dangerous, since the Assassin’s Creed 3 announcement trailer proved he’s every bit as deadly as Ezio Auditore. In fact, the attacks witnessed in that first bit of video showed a far more vicious and brutal protagonist than the Hidden Blade and poison dart-wielding Ezio. With this trailer defining the pistols as “loud” and the bow and arrow as “silent and lethal,” obviously players who prefer to stalk their prey silently will have options as well.

Add these weapons to the recently revealed Chinese Rope Dart, and Connor will be bringing more than just a new outfit to combat encounters. All of this is in the name of giving players more options with which to feel powerful, according to Ubisoft. The development team has consistently spoken about the desire to make the player more confident in taking the fight to their enemies, and this array of weapons is a good start.

We’ll have to wait until we see these weapons in practice to decide whether they really are innovative, or merely re-skins of past cases, but for now the blend of European and American weaponry has us transfixed.

Assassin’s Creed 3 will be released on October 30, 2012 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
