'Assassin's Creed 3' to Feature Season Pass for DLC

As if you didn't already expect it, Ubisoft has revealed they plan to support 'Assassin's Creed 3' with a wealth of downloadable content, which can also be purchased with a Season Pass.

There is no doubt in our mind that Assassin's Creed 3, which features both a new time period and a completely new protagonist, is going to be a strong candidate for Game of the Year when the time comes, but developer Ubisoft apparently wants to hedge their bets and start investing in the franchise early. Part of that investment comes with the announcement of a Season Pass for Assassin's Creed 3 that would include a ton of episodic content for players to sink their teeth into.

Many games, from Gears of War 3 to Saints Row: The Third, have employed the prolific season pass as to way to keep their title out of the hands of used games vendors, an enemy to publishers everywhere. The promise of continued support for a game long after its initial release is something developers are still trying to figure out, but the best course of action seems to be a combination of single and multiplayer content delivered with some regularity.

There's no word on if this Season Pass for Assassin's Creed 3 would meet all of those requirements — it was only inadvertently revealed by a memo sent to GameStop employees — but just the promise of a continued experience has us intrigued. There's also a wealth of pre-order bonuses for AC fans to try their hand at snagging, and even a Collector's Edition that boasts some really nifty collectibles, but what we really want is more content.

According to the memo, Ubisoft plans to announce more details in regards to this Season Pass soon, but for now they just want GameStop to get the word out to their potential pre-order holders. And hopefully then we can get a better sense of whether or not Ubisoft is trying to further the story of Connor through episodic content, or just want a more solid commitment to their multiplayer map and character offerings.
