Ubisoft's trend of going back and updating older Assassin's Creed titles in between releasing new games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey continues. Next up is Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered, an update of the 2012 iteration of the franchise set during the American Revolution. Ubisoft announced today that the remastered Assassin's Creed, updated with a new graphics engine and supporting 4K resolution and HDR, will be launching on March 29, 2019 for modern platforms.
Assassin's Creed 3 tells two stories, one set in the past and one set in the present. The past story is focused on protagonist Connor, an assassin, as he fights to combat the Templars' manipulation of the war to gain control over the American colonies. The story set in the present features Desmond Miles, as he works to prevent an apocalypse. Assassin's Creed 3 marks the end of the traditional Assassin's Creed format featuring Desmond in the present, as Ubisoft would shake things up with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and other future games.
Assassin's Creed 3 was originally launched in 2012 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, which should be self-explanatory in making clear the need for a remastered edition. Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered isn't just a texture update, however. According to Ubisoft, the remastered edition also makes improvements to the game's ergonomics and gameplay mechanics. Exactly how those changes will affect the player's experience remains to be shown, however. All that the game's comparison trailer provides is a good look at the visual improvements.
In addition to Assassin's Creed 3, Ubisoft is bundling in remastered editions of all of the game's post-launch content. Not only does that mean that the Benedict Arnold and Hidden Secrets DLC missions and the Tyranny of King Washington story DLC will be updated and included, but also it will include the full release of Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation. Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation Remastered is bundled with Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered for no increased price.
As one final bonus for dedicated Assassin's Creed fans, Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered will be included with Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Season Pass. Anyone who has purchased the Season Pass will be given the remaster for free once it launches in March.
Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered releases March 29, 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
