Ubisoft's long-running Assassin's Creed franchise has had the liberty of being set in various times and places since it began. Fans have already taken to guessing the setting of the next entry in the series following Assassin's Creed Valhalla. While prominent rumors were pointing at an Assassin's Creed game set in medieval China, a known leaker for Assassin's Creed reveals a series of clues that point to an entirely different time and place.

There has already been tons of speculation as to what time period and place the next Assassin's Creed would be set in. In addition to China, rumors have also pointed at India as the next possible setting along with a solo female protagonist, and fans are debating what year the next Assassin's Creed will be released. The rumor mill is in full swing, and the next set of rumors comes as the result of a bit of detective work.

On Reddit, user PerformerRelevant465 pointed out a YouTube video created by reliable Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan. In the video, j0nathan gives clues about the next game in the form of symbols, locations, images, and more. PerformerRelevant takes the clues to mean that the next game may be a smaller-scale version of the Hundred Years' War, with the location being either in Germany or France.

The Redditor also included an interesting comment from a YouTube commenter claiming to have deciphered the code. According to the commenter, their findings appear to confirm that the game would be developed in Sofia, Bulgaria, and would be released in 2022. On top of that, the game's setting is supposedly set in the Lorraine region, northeast of France.

It's not entirely surprising that the next game won't arrive until next year, as the pandemic has been a major deterrent and the current Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC season is ongoing. Still, past rumors have already hinted at Ubisoft Sofia handling development, as well as the 2022 release date. Ubisoft hasn't commented on any of the rumors thus far, but this may be a solid lead on what's to come from the developer.

Regardless, it's clear that there's still quite some time until the next Assassin's Creed title releases for fans. In the meantime, Ubisoft is slowing down its updates on Valhalla to focus on ironing out any bugs. As far as rumors for the future DLC, some fans have been skeptical of the inclusion of dragons in Assassin's Creed.
