Ubisoft’s celebration livestream of the Assassin’s Creed franchise recently gave fans a small glimpse into the future. Namely, it confirmed a new roguelike game mode for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as confirmed a ‘final chapter’ (free update) for later this year. It also confirmed fans would get a deeper look at the future of the franchise, presumably as a whole, in September.

Many in the Assassin’s Creed community have obviously reacted to the recent stream, some better than others, as many were hoping this livestream would be as billed and give a look at the future. Many fans wanted to see an Assassin’s Creed Origins-Odyssey crossover with Kassandra or official looks at Assassin’s Creed Rift, Infinity, or Nexus. While none of those were there, some fans are convinced that Ubisoft did tease an AC1 Remake at the event.

The biggest reasons have been compiled into one place on Twitter, a post by the Assassin’s Creed community account AccesstheAnimus. First and foremost is how the definition and saturation of the Assassin’s Creed 1 trailer elements seen during the showcase had been updated. This could have been simple video editing, but it would be strange to pay attention to AC1 this way and not other games.

This is especially true when paired with a brand new logo for the first Assassin’s Creed. It’s the only one to get an updated logo, complete with the “Ubisoft Original” marketing tactic recently employed by the company. And wrapping up this theory with a nice little bow is the fact that AC1 is listed last for the community celebration roadmap, which ends in September.

With the Assassin’s Creed September event giving a look at the future of the franchise, ending with the very first game there makes sense when approaching it in a reverse chronology order. It makes as much sense to end with the first game and announce an official AC1 Remake, or at least a remaster, of it at said event. It would be as exciting, if not more so, than Assassin’s Creed Rift’s confirmation, a look at AC Infinity, or a focus on AC Nexus.

Whether it happens or not is up in the air, but there’s also one more big question to consider. That’s whether Ubisoft would simply remaster the first game or has been working on a full-blown remake. Because the game is so old, the latter would be the best decision, as it could update Assassin’s Creed 1’s parkour, map, graphics, and so on in a more ground-up fashion befitting later entries in the action-adventure franchise (before the turn to open-world RPG). For now, September holds all the answers.

An Assassin’s Creed event is scheduled for September.
