Last year saw a meteoric rise in Twitch viewership, as the coronavirus pandemic pushed people to stay home and find ways to entertain themselves. Of course, that's great news for Twitch streamers, who largely benefitted from the increase, but it appears that some people need a break from streaming and creating content for the online masses regardless.

Asmongold, a popular streamer well-known for his World of Warcraft content, has announced an indefinite hiatus from streaming. Over on Twitter, Asm0ngold revealed that he would be taking a break, stating that he'd "gone back and forth" on the issue for the last few weeks. The streamer didn't reveal the specific factors behind his decision, but stated that there were too many to list in a single post.

Asmongold has been creating content for years, garnering a significant following in that time. While World of Warcraft is one of the streamer's most popular games to stream, he's also been taking part in the OfflineTV Rust server, alongside other major streaming personalities. The OfflineTV Rust server has been a hotbed of controversy and drama, though the streamer didn't indicate that it had anything to do with his departure in his announcement.

This isn't the first time Asmongold has taken a hiatus from streaming, either. Last year, Asmongold took a brief hiatus from streaming, and upon his return, suffered a variety of harassment. The streamer was also vocal about not wanting to be in a mainstream position, an issue that could be contributing to the current hiatus, though Asmongold hasn't confirmed that.

For many, 2020 was a mentally taxing year, as civil unrest, the pandemic, and a flurry of other issues melded together to create an immensely stressful time for people the world over. It's understandable, then, that global circumstances were taxing on entertainers, many of whom are forced to put on brave faces and continue creating content for their fans.

Asmongold isn't the only content creator to announce a hiatus, either. Pewdiepie is taking time off from YouTube, an announcement that surprised many. There may well be more streamers taking breaks in the near future, though when and who will be the big questions that fans will want to have answered – if more streamers do end up taking more time off.

In the meantime, all fans can do is await Asmongold's return. Pressuring the streamer to come back will likely have the opposite intended effect, so those looking to fill in their evenings may want to check out some new streamers for the time being.
