Asmongold took to Twitter to exclaim his surprise at the popularity of Genshin Impact on social media compared to other games he usually streams such as Final Fantasy 14, and has hinted he may start to stream the action role-playing game sometime in the near future.

Back in August 2021 while streaming his reactions to the Gamescom announcements, Asmongold made his opinion on Genshin Impact quite clear, saying it looked like a “good game” and he would try the game if it didn't have "all that bulls***" in it," likely in reference to its monetization model.

However, it appears as though the popular streamer who at the time of writing has over 2.9M followers on Twitch, may be about to make a U-turn on his previous statement. During a recent stream he remarked on the popularity of Genshin Impact's Twitter stats. It had 11,000 tweets and 2.7 million retweets compared to Final Fantasy 14's 10,000 tweets and 1.2 million retweets for the same period.

Asmongold, whose popularity on Twitch continues to grow, decided to tweet the game title alone, gaining traction almost immediately. The Genshin Impact tweet ended up gaining over 12,000 likes during the stream. The tweet now has over 22,000 likes and over 1,000 retweets. Asmongold was so impressed by the volume of likes and retweets that he is now considering giving the game a go saying, “The power of Genshin Impact? Yeah, maybe we’ll have to try this game out. We’ll see what happens.”

Asmongold has not committed to a timeframe for a stream of the game, but fans of his streams and Genshin Impact will be hoping for some more news on it soon. In the meantime its likely he'll return to Final Fantasy 14 streams. Asmongold has previously condemned microtransaction models in games such as Lost Ark, so fans can only speculate as to wether he would enjoy Genshin Impact which contains such prolific Gacha game mechanics never mind begin regular streaming of it.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game and was first published in 2020 for Android, iOS, PC and PlayStation 4, and was released on PlayStation 5 in April 2021. The game features an anime-style open-world environment and a combat system that utilizes elemental magic and character-switching. The game is a free-to-play title which is monetized through Gacha game mechanics that offer players new characters and weapons in order to progress. Genshin Impact grossed more than a staggering $3 billion in its first year of release, making it the highest ever first-year launch revenue for any video game.

Genshin Impact is available on Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 with a Switch version also in development.
