In March, studios temporarily suspended production on multiple film and television projects in response to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CW's The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow were among the projects impacted by the shutdown, but now they and several more Greg Berlanti shows are gearing up to resume filming in October.

Riverdale and Batwoman started production in Vancouver in September while Supergirl is eyeing a September 28 start date for its sixth and final season. The later start date for Supergirl is partly to accommodate the pregnancy of lead star Melissa Benoist and is conditional on a pending deal with the local unions to adhere by SAG's testing guidelines.

Deadline reports The Flash is aiming to return to Vancouver to begin production on its seventh season on October 1st. Meanwhile, DC's Legends of Tomorrow hopes to start filming its sixth season in the Canadian city just days later on October 5th. Mid-October start dates are being eyed for Superman & Lois, Titans, and Kung-Fu, the latter of which is a new addition to Greg Berlanti's library of television projects. Stargirl, which will air exclusively on The CW for its second season, is gearing up to begin filming its sophomore year at the end of October.

The previous seasons of The Flash, Supergirl, and Riverdale were cut short due to the pandemic, leaving certainly storylines unresolved or altered. Actress Marisol Nichols, for example, was originally planning to leave Riverdale after the fourth season but she has since confirmed her return for portions of season five.

Unfortunately, the postponed start dates for the new seasons of each show has forced The CW to delay the premiere dates until next year. To make up for the lack of original programming in the fall season, the network has been airing acquired programming such as DC Universe's Swamp Thing and the improvisational comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

The Flash season 7 premieres on The CW in 2021.
